A quick show of hands please. How many photographers here are also musicians? I find it interesting that so many people who are "artistic" often are so in more than one discipline. Ansel Adams was also a classically trained pianist, you have Ralph Gibson, and more recently people like Brian Adams, Nikki Sixx (no joke!), and Graham Nash. All are well known musicians and are also Photogs. My father was a photographer and jazz drummer who must have rubbed off on me because I'm also a musician in addition to being a photographer. My eldest son, who plays multiple instruments, also has a keen eye for photography.
I'm sure that there have been many studies on this, but I'm just wondering how many in our little community practice both arts.

Me me me! I'm a lame musician wannabe. I play clarinet, sax, flute and flail away at guitar and piano. I named them in order of my proficiency on the instrument. My avatar name here is 10Mplayer because I make a lame attempt at playing a vintage Conn 10M tenor sax built in 1959.

I play in a couple of jazz bands and teach guitar. Music has always been my passion. I also record and produce for other musicians. I was a Technical Director at a TV station. That was my day job for 26 years, although I worked swing shift. Being a techie and maybe "artistic" naturally led me to photography. I guess I like using the right and left side of my brain.

I am. I play mainly bass guitar, but also guitar and mandolin. I've been playing in bands since I was in high school in the 70s. Both photography and music are creative arts, so I'm sure there are a lot of photographers that are musicians.

I am a photographer, play the piano, organ and guitar.
The music side is in the shade however, due to the time factor.

I would not call myself anything as grand as a musician but I did play the piano when a lot younger, have struggled a little with the clarinet but mostly I have enjoyed playing the flute in a wind band until moving away from that area. I would continue to do so if there was a similar 'hobby' band near where I live now. Now I have a cheap second hand guitar which I find the hardest of them all to learn. Interesting question by the way.

Guitar player of 30 years off and on here. Was also a software engineer... as creative a profession as any. I got to take a concept and create a working piece of software from it... a similar endeavor to painting, or sculpture, etc in my experience.

I was a drummer until I had a hip replacement.
Find it too uncomfortable to sit on the stool for long now. An armchair is not very practicable.

Alan.

I play bass guitar but design and build electric bass and electric guitars. No more time to build would rather spend time playing bass or taking photos

I have a degree in music and have played most of my life. I also make part of my living as a photographer. I have also noticed that there seems to be a correlation between music and photography.

Like my photography, my music is never going to make any money for me. Ukulele, harmonica, keyboard, trumpet.

I know a lot of friends who are ARTISTS and also photographers, and many of them also play an instrument. I guess multi talented people proliferate the planet.

Guilty as charged😊
Does that explain why my camera is drawn to street musicians?
