That's a great idea. I've baby-proofed the rest of my house, why not my own valuables? Little stinker is too smart for his own good.

Just remember that 'little stinker' is probably too smart because he has your genes!

In the context of a 2yr old breaking the printer, that typo is awesome!

Thanks all for the advice. Looks like there's a pro 100 in my future :)

Check the size and weight of that printer - and the cost of the ink. It's a monster. How about replacing the 6800 with a 6820 for $120?

First, look inside your printer as much as possible and see if you can find what's causing the problem. Turn it upside down and shake. Get a pair of latex gloves before you start poking around inside. Taking it apart might help. If it's broken already, how much worse could you make it?

I have both the Pro-100 and Pro-10. I refill my inks using Precision Color Inks. I follow the advice of Jose Rodriguez on YouTube for Color inkjet photo prints with much success.

You may also find it better and cheaper to use a service like MxPro Labs if you shoot a lot, especially Pro or Semi-Pro. Their prices are very reasonable and very good quality, a division of Miller's Pro Lab.

I think so, and a table high enough to keep little fingers away, and a cover for dust and dirt, grand kids get at my IP4500 and computers too, gotta keep the kids so...

My 2 year old has a thing for putting his toys and other foreign objects in the openings if my Canon pixma ix6800. Now everything I print is green! I use aftermarket ink and I've had the printer a little over a year. Is there anything I can do to fix it or am I forced to upgrade to the pixma pro 100? Keep in mind I'm a single mom of 2 so, as much as I would love to just buy a new one, money's tight and I already spend way too much on this hobby.

Come on now. Get your priorities in order. Photography gear is much more important than sloppy children. The next mistake you will make is giving your kid ink tanks to play with. Seriously--a good excuse to upgrade the printer (something tells me you let the baby ruin the old printer- so you can convince the wife that a new printer is needed). I have to remember that technique.

Come on Jerry for $10 more she gets a Pro 100. Yes it is a heavy printer but I have mine on a printer stand with rollers and sure don't carry it around with me. If you do anything with Black and white the Pro 100 is a much better choice. Good luck on your pick. If you do get the 100 it would be a good idea to have someone there to help you set it up and a printer stand or solid table is strongly suggested.

NOW, put it where a 2 year old can't reach it.

If you've done all you can to make the old printer work and it still doesn't then bite the bullet and get the Pro-100. It's a nice printer and they are very inexpensive.

Considering you enjoy printing that much and I know it's tough with kids but you can pick up a Pixma Pro 100 for $129.00 with rebates at B+H.

If I'm reading the links correctly, it looks like you need to buy a camera along with the printer to get the printer for $129. Otherwise, just the printer will cost $179. Not that that isn't a good deal, but it looks like shady advertising to say the printer is $129 but several pages down you find that is only if you also buy a camera?

That's not true. Look up the Pixma Pro 100 on B+H. It's a stand alone rebate for the printer by itself.

NO!NO!NO! If you have used your printer alot and your waste ink blotters are full, turning it upside down and shaking it can spill spent ink all over the inside of your printer and your table and floor! Never turn it upside down unless you know the waste ink in the bottom is dry!

I dont own that printer but most printers have heads that the ink flows thru, if the baby stuck something in there, ssay bread, cookies etc,
there may be residue stuck in those small openings. They make cleaning kits where you run a solution thru those ink jets and it cleans them out. Id spend the $15 to $20 bucks and try that before Id buy a new printer.
check ebay or Amazon etc
