I've never done that with camera gear, but I have been married three times. Does that count?

I just bought, on Ebay, for $1050, my second RX10III, having sold my first copy last year. Have an upcoming summer away from home and felt I can use the extra 200-600mm reach over my RX10 #1. Got to thinking...I have done this sort of thing in the past with lenses, bought and then sold, always used equipment and generally sell for about the same price as purchased on Ebay. So bottom line is it costs me about 10% (Ebay fee) to have an item for 6 months (use Paypal credit so no interest, no payments for 6 months). This is less expensive than my other hobby, golf, which runs about $60 per week. I get great enjoyment from exploring the use of various lenses and camera bodies, even buying the same thing twice!

Sounds like a good way to go. I usually buy factory refurbs, then sell on eBay or Craigslist. But I have bought a couple lenses on eBay.
I've been on an equipment roller coaster the past year. I shot Canon for 20 years, went mirrorless (Fuji) and went back to DSLR but to Nikon! Luckily, I had good rebates on the Fuji gear when I purchased it, so since the prices were back up and I take excellent care of my equipment, I was able to get my money back to spend on the new equipment. I also try to sell here or on a Facebook page for Buy, Sell, Trade first before putting on eBay, giving myself a chance to save that 10%. Sometimes the tide goes the right way and you don't have to lose much to try a different system.
Unfortunately, even the lens market is following along, with new versions of lenses being introduced every couple of years. Seems every thing we touch is outmoded or somewhat obsolete within a couple of years.
Technology change/updates are driving us nuts!!!!

Don't feel strange or crazy, others do the same thing or worse.
I have a friend who used to own a gun shop/police gear store. He had one customer - Postal Inspector/Postal Police - who was constantly buying, selling back or trading only to buy again as he searched for the "perfect" set of weapons/gear. I believe his record was buying, selling, trading and buying back the same riot gun 5 times - with various accessories.
Sounds like this guy could use some help!
Just what is a serious photographer? I am with Tinplater, I have serious amounts of fun. I am serious about getting the best shot possible. I an dead serious, about getting the best deal I can. Unless you want to pay all my bills, cthahn, I seriously do not care what you think.
When I buy a new or used camera or lens I will usually keep it 4 about 2 yrs.It takes me about 6 months 2 learn how 2 get the most out of what I have. I tend 2 forget some good tips and tricks from the owners Manuel so the condensed version is always with me. I believe a good mindset is to know u got the best u could out of what u got.I still have a 50d just in case 80d craps out As 4 used I like Adorama cause I know it's been inspected by those who know cameras, lenses, etc.I'm not a rich man!
