I don't put anything on ebay without doing a search there first. I was about to post several items, but a search showed that many other people were offering the same items, with little or no interest from buyers.

I just bought, on Ebay, for $1050, my second RX10III, having sold my first copy last year. Have an upcoming summer away from home and felt I can use the extra 200-600mm reach over my RX10 #1. Got to thinking...I have done this sort of thing in the past with lenses, bought and then sold, always used equipment and generally sell for about the same price as purchased on Ebay. So bottom line is it costs me about 10% (Ebay fee) to have an item for 6 months (use Paypal credit so no interest, no payments for 6 months). This is less expensive than my other hobby, golf, which runs about $60 per week. I get great enjoyment from exploring the use of various lenses and camera bodies, even buying the same thing twice!

I Am Crazy Like You !!
I do this all the time !! I love the trying different cameras and lenses - so I buy used ones (or gray or refurbs) then have fun with them for 6 months or so - then sell. It's fun, and I feel like I learn so much by using all the different gear. Ive bought and sold too many cameras to count. And like you said way less expensive than my other hobby - showing Hunters and Jumpers - that's averages about $2000 a month.
And like you - I have even bought some twice !!!
Right now I'm trying a mirrorless Lumix GX8, I bought gray on ebay for 699 - and the 35-100 2.8 I bought "open box" for 300 ish. It's been a super fun camera, not ready to sell it yet - but soon something else will catch my eye.

This had never occurred to me. How does that work out for you financially? Do you advertise gray market as gray market?

Only if you traded in wife 1 and wife 2 for wife 3 at a discount.

That sounds like a very expensive proposition.

If the lens is White Box - then I do put that in my description...... Cameras - Ok this is bad sorry, but I'm being honest with you hoggers -> If the camera is gray I do not mention that UNLESS they ask me - then I do tell them exactly where I got it.
I do kinda break even - the 10% ebay charges on top of the listing fee really pisses me off - but I keep going back.
Every now and then I'll even sell something for more than I paid

Thanks. That could work out to be cheaper than renting.

It's probably about the same after shipping and the ebay charges - but what is nice is that you can keep them as long as you want - 6 months, year - and really have fun with it.

In my opinion for used gear, gray market means nothing. There seems to be a mystique attached to "white" market versus "gray". The only difference is, when new, items made for foreign markets do not have a US warranty. But once a "white" market item is sold, the warranty is generally not transferable, so there is no difference in used equipment.

Depends upon your definition of serious! I am seriously having a good time using the equipment, comparing images, and learning new skills. Fortunately I do not have to make money doing this.
