Where was the violence? Had this irresponsible protest actually been violent, the right wing media would be all over it.
The protesters blocked the entrance and chanted. It appears they did try to shut down the speech. But calling it violent is just as irresponsible as what the protesters did.
According to the LA Times, MacDonald actually reached a wider audience because of the protest due to the unplanned live stream of her talk! Protest backfired maybe!
Attempting to shut down speech you don't agree with is petty as well as unAmerican. The libs have some rights regarding peaceful protest, but impeding other's rights is not included in that.

I think there's enough hate to go around on both sides, but it does seem more prevalent in California. I think if I was living with their tax rates and then just had my gas go up $.13/gal and my vehicle registration go up $175/year I'd be full of hate also but it would be directed towards Brown.

You are right, there is plenty of hate coming from both sides of the isle. I think on a site like this, people respond differently than if they saw each other in person. It works sort of like road rage. We seem to hate each other because we we have different political opinions. In my opinion, I think light beer is worthless but I don't hate the people who think it is great stuff and I don't think they hate me for my opinion. Bad analogy? Probably but ...what the heck..
I do like to discuss political differences with rational people but don't hate people that disagree with me..
