Keep the color and crop out most of the foreground and the third of the space to the right. Too much empty space. The tree on the far right is a distraction from the subject. Boosting the contrast on the building would help too.

Thanks for your comment and suggestion, gvarner. I may need to play with it a bit more, and doing a crop that primarily focuses on the house may work.

Personally, I like the composition as is, with the tree. I think it adds nice balance. I think the foreground adds perspective, and in the b&w version it adds nice texture. Just my opinion.

Thank you for your thoughtful comment, George. And for your suggestion. Both are appreciated. I think, after doing a bit of additional cropping, I prefer to have the entire tree in the photo, which means I cannot just crop the water out.

Sounds like a good plan. 😃

You've made it tough for me my friend.
The B&W has a slight edge, but they're both super.

I prefer the B & W. The color is pushed and the contrast is too dark for me. HDR would capture the bright and dark areas better. David

I actually like the color one. The house does not stand out as much (to me)in the black and white, Maybe just needs some post processing adjustment. Still get the feel of abandon house on the windswept prairie in the color version.

My main problem with the B&W is that the water fades into the picture on the far right, where it is more pronounced in the color pic. There might be more issues with either one or both.

Thanks for looking and for any comments.

I love the B&W. While the sky and house in color are striking, the water detracts from the photo. I would actually clone stamp it out and see if you like it better.

I agree 100%. The B&W is great of the house, the water is secondary. A different perspective might work, but your light will be different on the subject, and the background may not work. I think you did great with what you had, might even get in closer for a tighter shot!

The only thing I would change is the lack of cropping. Get rid of the far-off little dip in the ground with its trees and water, plus about 30% of the foreground.

Thank you, Steven. I agree with you. The tree adds to the overall picture and does give it balance.
