That's really a loaded question, the BEST Canon upgrade would be a Canon 5Ds 50 mp for a little over three grand...all depends how much your willing to spend.

Anything newer with the exception of the T6.

I upgraded several years ago from a T2i to a 60D. Then to a 7D MKII last year. and could not be happier. The only drawback is the 7D MKII doesn't have the articulating screen that the 60D had, which I loved.

Best of luck in your quest.

As has been the answer for a long time, it depends on what you want and what you shoot.

Low light, high ISO? A full frame. Birds in flight, action? The 7D mk II. Don't need 10 fps, 7 will do but with an articulated touch screen, higher pixel count, and better low light performance with down to -3 ev f8 focus ability on 65 points? The 80D. And now they have added the 77D, I'm not sure where it fits in. However, the latest Rebel, the T7i is certainly a step up from the older T3i.

The Canon T6i is the perfect step-up. Check the spec's.

Question I've asked myself a few times of the last few years. Then I get down to basics. Do I need, or just want. My 3Ti stays.

It really depends upon what kind of photography you want to do. Some cameras are better at fast-focusing (best for sports or birds-in-flight). Going to a full-frame camera gives better photos for several reasons - but you will not be able to use any of the regular EF-S lenses that you probably have for the T3i - you can only use the EF lenses, which for the most part are better (the "L" quality lenses) but more expensive. A 6D refurbished from Canon runs about $1200. With a 24-105 lens is about $1600. If you do landscapes, general travel, or portraits, that is an excellent combination.

For a well-regarded, highly capable, all-around camera I would suggest you look at the 80D.

I just upgraded from the T3i to the T6i. According to the specs, it has better low light performance and wifi. I was happy with the old camera, and I expect tere to be a very small learning curve with the new model.

Logsplus, the only person that can answer your question is yourself. With that said, allow me to give you my experience. I started with a Canon Rebel T5, upgraded to a Canon Rebel T6s, and ended up with the Canon 80D. Each move up added a need to aid my photography. The T5 had a fixed screen without any touch control. The T6s gave me the rotating screen and touch control along with some other nice additions. The move to the 80D was to get the latest updates to the focus system and a better body that aided in sealing out dust and moisture. One thing in common with all three is they would take both APS and FF lenses. If you have an investment in lenses you need to take that into consideration.

Now I still wanted a second body for those occasions I wanted two different lenses mounted like a wide angle on one and a zoom with reach on the other. I was going to wait for the dollars to build up and get another 80D. Canon came out with the EOS 77D. It is very close to an 80D in a Rebel body. I have used this camera for the last week and I like it. It has a slightly better focusing system than the 80D and the wheels and buttons are in the same area with similar or identical function. I can move from one to the other without really thinking about it.

So it comes down to the dollars you have to spend. 80D if $1200 is an OK amount (less for a refurb at Canon store) or the 77D for less. Do not consider the T6, it has nothing to add in this discussion. It has an 18MP processor which is a step down from all the above, which have a 24MP processor.

👍👍👍 Completely agree, I just stepped up from my T5i to the 80D and have been very, VERY happy with it.
