One of my main reasons to going to Yellowstone was to photograph some new born elk calves. I planned my trip at the time I did just for that reason, but I only saw two new borns and in both cases the window of opportunity closed before I could get setup. Then wolves have really had a big impact on the Yellowstone elk herd and its been very devastating particularly to the young elk calves.

On the other hand the bison seem to be doing very well as there is bison every where and lots of young bison calves.

If you look close you can see the umbilical chord on the abdomen of this young calf.

Thanks. I saw tons of buffalo and although I really didn't spend any time or take many photos of them. I will share a few down the line.

Here is another bear I saw out in the Lamar Valley. There was no place to park, but now one else around, so I got a few decent ones of him.

This might be one of my poor ones of him. Some were way over exposed as it was about 2 pm on a bright day and with a black bear its hard to get the exposure right, at least for me it is.

And what would Yellowstone be without seeing a griz or two?

Unfortunately I never seemed to be in the right place, at the right time, to get any great shots although I did get a few photos of them. Some days I saw as many a 7 grizzlies, but most were too far to get any really good photos. the only day I got really close, the wind was blowing so hard my camera was just shaking. As soon as they got 100 yards out, the wind died down, That was pretty much my luck on the grizzles. On another occasion, I spotted a grizzly a long ways off and watched him for some time. I could see where he was heading so I moved down the road several hundred yards as I thought he might cross the road. Things looked great until he got about 125 yards out and then he turned and headed north and ended up crossing within yards of where I had been parked. Of course by that time, there were huge crowds and a couple rangers.

I like stuff close!

Great wildlife shots! We were in Yellowstone in January, and the only grizzlies or wolves that we saw were in the Grizzly and Wolf Discovery Center in the town of West Yellowstone!

I had on too big of lens for this guy. I kept backing up to get far enough away for a decent shot, but he just kept too close.

I photographed this fawns mother the day before and knew she was ready to drop a fawn. I went back to the same area the next day and saw a flicker in the brush, very near where her mother had been the day before. I stayed back and took a few photos. I think this fawn was born earlier the morning I took this photo. Its a fawn Pronghorn.
