We did a family trip to southern Utah in the early part of October. It was beautiful. Even got some snow at Bryce. And consider a drive thru Cedar Breaks. That time of year the colors are changing. Spent a week seeing Zion, Cedar Breaks, Bryce, Lake Powell, and the north rim of the Grand Canyon.

I'm planning a similar trip and would like to know how many of these places are dog friendly?

National Parks are NOT dog friendly. I'm not sure about state parks in Utah. BLM land is dog friendly.

I think it is a park by park regulation. So you would need to call each park you were considering visiting to see if dogs are allowed.

We spent a week in Zion two years ago and didn't even come close to seeing all of it. It is a park that needs to be hiked to really see. It has towering cliffs with great vistas from the tops as well as some amazing slot canyons. You could easily spend all 10 days just there.

If you must see other things as well the North Rim of the Grand Canyon is quite close to Zion as in Bryce Canyon and Cedar Breaks. Wire Pass and Buckskin Gulch are amazing as is much of the rest of Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument.

If it was me I would shoot for either late October or early November so that you get some fall foliage in your trip and cooler temperatures, although spring flowers in the southwest can also be beautiful.

I would definitely avoid the middle of summer. Big crowds and pretty hot.

Basically you are just going to have to decide whether you want to see one park really well, or the tip of the iceberg in several parks. If you are going to try to do that then any of the Utah Parks are beautiful, but like Zion Arches and Monument Valley really need to be hiked.

Definitely, Bryce Canyon. Hard to take a bad image there. The Arches is a bit of a distance but offers many Bryce-like opportunities. The North Rim is not so impressive a photo op as the South Rim, but that may be a matter of opinion.,

North Rim is hands down more interesting. More rugged and isolated and subject to bad weather, which is great for photos.

You also get the Lodge at the North Rim, which to me is also well worth seeing/photographing.

If you've never been to Monument Valley, it's a must. It's worth getting up before sunrise. Great shots from near the parking area.
