I agree with Trix on this one. A determining factor would be the type of shooting the OP does. Both cameras serve different markets. The 7DII did have issues when first released with AF, but keep in mind that the AF is still rather advanced and commonly the issue nowadays with AF is user error.
Thanks for your input.
I forgot to mention that part of my landscapes are lighthouses with crashing waves and flying birds.
(We traveled all the Missions in Calif and now doing lighthouses along the western coast).
As far as financials the reason for my question was the close price I've found between the 80D and the 7Dll.
$250.
For that little amount, I felt it best to ask others who had experience with either of these cameras, or both.
As far as the 24-70 lenses, well..... those are more like $800 apart.
I had been on the Canon website and used their "compare" function for the different models.
Except for the lower MP on the 7Dll, it seemed to "out rate" or "out spec"
the 80D in every category.
I chatted with the Canon tech people as I didn't quite understand the processor. (Dual Digic 6 vs. Digic 6). At that point I was all set to purchase the 7D ll , as they were so close I price.
Then I read the reviews on the Canon site. So many complained about the AF.
That's when I started to squirm, and sweat.
Figured I'd better ask more people, so here I am.
Thanks again!

I liked my 7D MK II so much that I bought a second. I purchased both camera from the Canon refurbished website and never had a problem. Received the camera and it was just like new. Canon has a 1 year warranty with their refurbished cameras. Can't go wrong. I would take your wife to Best Buy and get her to handle both cameras to see which one she likes the 80D is somewhat lighter. Good luck!

I'm looking at purchasing a New Canon camera. My currrent one is a 40D, which has served me well, but has limitations. (And is getting pretty worn).
My only "conditions" in purchasing are I want to be able to use my EFS lenses, (I have both EF and EFS), and I need a camera with automatic "modes", so my wife can use it as well. (We travel a lot in our RV, and she is "designated camera person" when I'm driving.
I've narrowed it down to either the 80D, or the 7D Mark ll, (I'm leaning toward the 7D).
I know all the technical differences, (mp, ISO, focus points, etc.).
And reading a lot of reviews I hear people having focusing problems with the 7D Mark ll.
Any input would be appreciated!
Thank you all in advance.

I owned a 7D mark II and I thought it was a brilliant camera, especially with the Canon 100 - 400mm f4.5/6.6L IS mark II. I never had any focusing issues and used a number of Canon L lenses with mine.
No problems with the Mark 2 I bought it as soon as it came into the store never had a problem with the focusing it's a good choice so is the 77 and 80D also 70D.

Nikon D500 focuses faster and more accurately than the 7D Mark II. But a lot of my friends use the 7D Mark II with the new Canon 100-400 and love that combo although my combo of D500 and 200-500 is faster and more accurate on focusing.
I started with the 40D and used that until the pop-up flash would not pop-up. I took it in for repairs and was told it was not repairable. The store replaced it with the 50D which I am currently using. I am not thinking about a new camera body since this is more than adequate for what I photograph. I just bought the canon 50mm EF 1.4 USM Lens for a vacation trip next month. Some of the places I will be visiting with the grandkids will not be conducive to using the Kit lens that came with the camera. I will be trying the new lens out taking photos for my homeowners insurance.

Try some comparison sites.
Read comparisons and specs, and decide what features are important to you.

7D and not the newer II. I know several people with it and they've had no issues and use it almost everyday. If you didn't have EFS lenses, I would highly recommend the 6D, full frame and sell the EFSs. You can use your EFs and get a 6D with a kit lens like the 24-105 and pretty much be covered with a fabulous L lens and a veritable workhorse of a camera with all the auto features.
I've owned the 7DII for 2.5 years and have had NO focusing problems. It's built like a tank. I like it.
