I am planning to purchase one of these lenses, but I am not sure which one. I have read the reviews and understand each lens' pros and cons. What I need is someone who has experienced one or the other (or both) or has made a similar choice. This lens will be used on the Nikon D750 and Nikon F5.

Any information will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Michael

http://www.the-digital-picture.com/Reviews/ISO-12233-Sample-Crops.aspx?Lens=986&Camera=453&Sample=0&FLI=0&API=4&LensComp=615&CameraComp=614&SampleComp=0&FLIComp=0&APIComp=4 This is the correct comparison of the Tamron and the Nikon. Move your cursor over the image and it will show you the sharpness of both lenses. The Tamron will be first and when you move the cursor over the image the Nikon will be displayed. The Tamron is a stellar lens at half the price.

Thank you! Have you used the Tamron?

I am buying one as we speak. This lens is well built and it is very well put together. B&H has a $100.00 rebate until mid April.

I saw that when I went to their website. Did you consider the Nikon 14-24?

I don't have that particular Tamron lens, however, I do have the new 16-300mm for my Nikon. I gave my son my Canon equipment as he lives in Alaska and there are lots of opportunities to photograph there. I sent him my 18-300mm for the Canon. Sent one to my brother and sister-in-law too. They use it a lot to photograph their grandson's baseball games. They get great photos with it. For me, that's my "walk-around" lens. Good luck. I think you'll enjoy the Tamron and won't regret it at all.

I haven't seen any comparisons between the two lenses. However, I do know that the 14-24mm f2.8 is one of Nikon's Holy Trinity Of Lenses. I have nothing against third party lenses. If they are sharp and less expensive, buy them. The choice is up to you. If you decide to sell the Nikon lens in later years, the demand for it will probably will be better than the Tamron. IMO.

I purchased the Tamron 15-30mm f/2.8 a few months back. I didn't really consider the Nikon 14-24mm. The MTF charts for the Tamron are fantastic, and it cost less to boot.

I've never used a Nikon 14-24mm, but the Tamron 15-30mm in practice turned out to match expectations. The barrel distortion at 15mm is significant and the effect mimics a fisheye. The pin cushion distortion at 30mm is not as significant. At 20mm (and plus or minus a few) there is little of either barrel or pin cushion. That is good information to know when setting up different kinds of shots.

I have both lenses and they both are very good. The Tamron has the advantage of VC so it is great for handholding and the bonus is that it is almost half the price. If the Tamron had been out when I purchased the Nikon it would have been hands down the Tamron.

Do you miss the 14 of the Nikon when using the Tamron?

No I don't miss the 14 and in reality 15 is not that much different. I still occasionally use the 14-24mm when I drag a tripod put. I just failed to think the purchase through before pulling the trigger. I should have waited another 6 months.

I have both in my rental inventory so I can use whichever I want, whenever I want them. The Tamron is my only choice, the Nikon has not been on my personal body for 1 1/2 years. It's a beauty of a lens at a great price!
Never tried it on my F5 though, but now I am thinking about it.

Tamron is giving the rebate, not B&H.
