First rate shot, Warren--simply stunning on download. You really know how to use flashes to enhance your photos.

Thanks Earl

Saw that a big low was developing off-shore up north. Hope it doesn't develop into anything more than a depression.... stay dry.

Thank you Jane for your kind words. I love your description of the 'pops' of orange. They really are beautiful. Again - thanks.

Good point about common birds. In eastern US, the Northern Cardinal is a beautiful bright red, but so common that it is often overlooked. I have never seen a silver gull, but I agree, it is a stunning bird. Thanks for posting for all of us to see. In my experience, white birds are difficult to get the colors correct, but your technique is terrific.

I've seen several images of the Northern Cardinal and I agree it's beautiful. We don't have them in Australia however we do have several intensely coloured though common birds species which are also often overlooked. Gives me an idea. I may set myself a small project to photograph common birds. And I agree with you about capturing images of white birds. Can be challenging. Again - thanks.

Excellent shot. It's a tribute to you and your wise choice of equipment. I'll have to get that camera, lens, and TC. Then all my pictures will look great.

Agree - it's simply really. Just get a top-notch camera, lens, flash-gun and model. Viola.... great image!!! Thanks for your wise counsel Jerry

Stunning bird and a great capture.

Thank you Carol. I agree these birds are stunning. Although often photographed informally in selfies and snapshots, they're rarely photographed seriously. Again thanks.

Bejamin, thank you. These birds are always in a hurry to move on - particularly if someone is eating fish'n'chips nearby!!

The Silver Gull is a very common bird. They number in their hundreds as they squabble aggressively for the occasionally discarded food morsel when we Australians try to eat one of most favoured informal take-away meals..... fish and chips (chips.... Australian for french-fries)!!! I'm sure this happens worldwide.
This one however, was cleaning-up after rummaging around in some particularly dirty sea-weed which had washed ashore onto a local beach. Aside from looking good, it's very important for sea-birds to groom regularly, as the grooming action spreads a naturally produced body oil which helps waterproof the feathers. I personally feel they are very beautiful despite their being one of most common birds.
