This is very similar to the scam used to steal emails from the democrats.

Many thanks for the rapid replies! They confirm my suspicions. I logged into my account - which is still active, BTW - and there were no messages. I'll contact PayPal and apprise them of the scammers.
Just got a Paypal scam email today.
Send it to
spoof@paypal.com
They try and follow up on these things, maybe they can catch that idiot!
I told one of them my Social Security # is 123-45-6789. I never heard back from them. :)

I never gave Pay Pal my social security number.

PayPal a few days ago expressed regret that I'd cancelled my account. I hadn't.
After that email PayPal told me that my account had been "limited" due to supposed access from a user in Hong Kong. The email had several grammatical and spelling errors.
A link is furnished to fix things, it wants to confirm my SSN. I don't recall furnishing my SSN when I opened the account, I'm wary about furnishing it now. I've used PayPal for a number of purchases, but only one sale, for the amount of $10.00.
Has anyone else encountered this sort of thing from PayPal? Any suggestions?

I have had spam emails saying they are from paypal, the whole set up of the email was different to normal, I got in contact with paypal and they asked me to forward the email to them with out opening any links (which I had not done) and gave me the email address to forward it to. They replied to me saying it was a scam email and if I got any more to send them straight to the email address the had given to me...
I get similar ones all the time. Whenever I think it might me ligit I contact the financial institution in the normal manner, NEVER use a link in an email. In the last few years I must have received 15 of these, none of them were ligit.

Both PayPal and EBay have sites you can forward a suspicious email to. It will help them to track down to scum who sent it. You will get a reply confirming it was or was not from them.

I've had the same thing in the past, and wisely talked to PayPal directly via the phone. PayPal told me to forward the email to spoof@paypal.com so they can go after the phishers.
They also advised to then delete it in everyway possible.

Scam. Do not click it!
Get them often. As noted, it is not from PayPal and even though the link might say it that is not where it goes.
If you want to check your PayPal account just log into it directly. You will find all is fine. They never ask for your SS number.

Emails like that turn up every week in my Spam folder.
It's not from Paypal. It's a scam. Log into your Paypal account (not via a link in the email) and inspect. I think you'll find everything is in tact. NEVER use a link in an email.

Don't do it. It's a scam! Since you opened the email, you'd better do a deep virus scan of your computer too! Pay Pal isn't gonna ask you for your SSN out of the blue. It's obviously a Phishing scheme (and potentially a malware attack.) 😡
