frjack's Glass and Light series this morning got me to thinking about photos I'd taken through glass or of glass. I pulled an older one, and one not quite so old, to start. Please share yours!

Also, please feel free to go into detail about how you took the image you are posting. Hopefully, we'll all learn and be inspired by the thread. Thanks for joining in!

#1 - confounding mess or mesmerizing? I was outside standing close to the window and shooting into the building - lens nearly touching the glass. View is into a small sunlit chapel and out a window opposite side. Light source (sun) is from the window across from the candle. The rest in the frame (large tree, grass, blue sky) is reflection of what was behind me.

I never did anything like this but I have to say these are excellent. I particularly like the first one with its varied dimensions and views.... tho I have no idea how this came about .

Thank you, Pam! #1 - standing outdoors and shooting through a window into a small room with light source (sun) coming in the other side. The rest is...well, if you've ever tried to shoot a storefront window, you'll know All those reflections of what is behind you - traffic and people - that your eye may not have acknowledged, but your camera surely picked up!

Still gazing at this picture, #1.... I can't tell if you're outside shooting in ...or ...if you're inside shooting out. The dimension is captivating.

Thank you! I wrote a little more in the opening to help. My hope is that folks will be interested rather than frustrated and put off

If you get a chance to take some "through-glass" photos soon, please post here. I'm going to try to do some new ones for the thread if I can get out of the orchards and sagebrush.

Taking you up on your invitation, this was taken from inside a pub, looking out through the window in front. The setting sunlight highlighted the smoke being exhaled and created a nice silhouette of the person smoking.

Talk about mesmerizing! This is awesome, Bob; thanks so much for posting! A fantastic example of paying attention to the light. When you view this, or when you shot, do you think back to how glamorous smoking was always portrayed in movies a few decades ago?

I'm also curious if you observed her for awhile and waited for the perfect exhale?

Very nice, Linda. The first one really wants me to "scratch my head"! Good idea for a new thread.
