Here is the response from Perri Dorset at Bonier Publications:

HI there-

Effective with the March/April 2017 issue, we’ve made the difficult decision to cease publication of Popular Photography Magazine.
The remaining issues of your subscription will be transferred to Popular Science Magazine.
Discovery and innovation are reshaping the world around us, and Popular Science makes even the most complex ideas entertaining and accessible. As the world’s largest science and technology magazine, Popular Science presents the best hopes for our planet, our lives, our children and our future through the individuals and ideas that are building a better world.
You can also receive one of the following Bonnier publications if you prefer them to Popular Science.
• Boating: Founded in 1956, Boating, the world’s largest powerboat magazine, remains the most trusted source of boating information on the planet/
• Field & Stream: Known as “The World’s Leading Outdoor Magazine.” Devoted to the complete outdoor experience and lifestyle, Field & Stream gives its readers the knowledge and inspiration to pursue the sports they love.
• Flying: The world’s most widely read aviation magazine — Flying is the premier resource for pilots and aviation enthusiasts who have a passion for flying.
• Motorcyclist: For more than 100 years, Motorcyclist has been the premier resource for the hard-core motorcycle enthusiast. With detailed and accurate road tests plus innovative and out-of-the-ordinary features running alongside thoughtful hands-on and how-to stories.
• Sailing World: Sailing World connects the community of racing sailors through words, images and shared experiences. Across many mediums, it explores the sailor’s passion and showcases the lifestyle, destinations and technology.
• Saveur: SAVEUR honors and celebrates real food made by real people around the globe — celebrating stories that weave together culture, tradition and family through the essential human act of cooking.
• Scuba Diving: Scuba Diving is for divers who live to submerge, who can’t wait to learn about the latest gear and technological innovations in the sport, and who daydream of destinations both exotic and challenging while diving every weekend in their own backyard.

I see, from the comments, that the list came out five years ago. That means that Zoom was not being published five years ago, otherwise it would've been on the list. Good to know, that I haven't missed that many. Or, perhaps, it's content is too esoteric to be included on this list - the magazines listed do seem to be of a more ordinary commercial interest.

I just received an email from pop photography verifying this fact. I asked if the editor and staff were going to start a new publication. I also asked if there would be an online version. Lastly, I asked about the mentor series. I hope some good can be salvaged from this amazing rag. Sorry to see it go!!!

Look at commercial magazines to see what the industry is accepting. Photo mags don't always do that.

I subscribed and have received my 1st issue which is the March/April.
It even has an article about my new camera, the Sony a99II.
I guess I have to wait and see what comes next.

Charles, they are going to switch your subscription to Popular Science unless you call them and tell them otherwise. You may opt for some other Bonnier publications or you may request a refund. 800-876-6636. Read my post just above.

What do you think of that camera. As soon as I have a bunch of bills paid up I'm going to be saving for one. I've heard complaints about they have the video programmed to work, but I'm more of a still photographer anyways (although I've occasionally experimented with it).

Sorry to say, but the march issue of Popular Photography magazine was the last issue, they are closing their "doors".

How sad. I learned much from the photo magazines in the 70's and 80's. All the ads in the last few pages were very helpfull in making my buying experiences easier.

I guess the only place to get camera news from now on will be some biased, opinionated, ultra-conservative message board that I belong to...

Yeah....I had just renewed too, go figure. So I sent an email asking what was going to happen and they just told me it was going to be switched to Popular Science. The other publications were never given as an option....might have considered field and stream....anyway, wrote them back and told them I didn't want Popular Science, to just cancel and refund. They said they would, but also said it could take a couple of months before it shows on my account. A couple of months???

Hey guys and gals... No worries here... I totally love my two favorite photo magazines... VOGUE and Architectural Digest... And they are doing fabulous! Their issues keep getting thicker and absolute high quality imagery is the rule not the exception!

Condé Nast owns both of these rags and is doing a stellar job with them... ‎Anna Wintour the Editor of VOGUE has really brought this publication to it's zenith...

I shoot commercial fashion / beauty and trust me VOGUE is the gold standard... Likewise I assist many architectural shooters in my market and without exception they all subscribe to Architectural Digest which again is the gold standard for this genre...

Strongly recommend a subscription to each if you have any aspirations in shooting commercially in either of those genre's...
As for Popular Photography? Historically entirely focused on hobbyist and as such merely a marketing vehicle for kit vendors...

Do your research folks.... Determine the actual circulation of rags that address the needs/desires of your client base... only then will you likely be able to make meaningful inferences as to the merit/worth of a magazine as it relates to your commercial aspirations...

Darwinian selection always brings out the very best while eliminating the less fit in any market (or life form)...
And it's always been that way... adapt, evolve or go extinct... btw this indeed holds for those currently making a living with a camera...
btw, it's a brave new world for those migrating to video, enough said...

Hope this brings a ray of light and optimism into the gloom/doom scenario seeing here thus far...
Hey guys and gals... No worries here... I totally ... (show quote)

The fact hat Popular Photography lasted for 80 years, doesn't back up any you're saying very well!
