Based on all the snarky, rude and irrelevant comments, I will not be posting to this site again. And I do self educate and I do read about good wildlife techniques. I guess if you are not a "Self proclaimed expert" you do not belong here. It would be nice to see a civil thread some day. But I guess that is asking too much with this crowd.

I don't blame you John. Many of these people are older pros with pushy controlling rotten personalities who will jump at the chance to tell someone how dumb they are while copying and pasting non relevant information and attempting to appear knowledgeable.

Make sure your bracketing or exposure comp didn't accidently get set. If that doesn't help as a last resort you could try resetting the camera to factory defaults by holding two buttons (ISO button and +/- Exposure Compensation button) simultaneously, until the control panel turns off briefly while the camera resets itself to the factory default settings.

ISO is part of the "Exposure Triangle", but it is not part of exposure. The triangle is to teach how exposure is set with aperture and shutter speed, and then the ISO can be set to make that the correct exposure for the desired brightness.

The Exposure Triangle is not incorrect at all! And nothing I have said should suggest that to you...

Explain to me how the exposure triangle is merely a teaching tool, please.

It does not give you values to plug into your camera, instead it is a tool that helps to learn how to decide what those values should be.

Which is to say that it is a teaching/learning tool.

Incidentally some people think it might not be a very good tool either!

I'll agree that it's a tool, and that one learns how to use it, but one does not stop using it once one learns how it is used.

"Some people"? Would you be one of them?

Nobody "uses" the Exposure Triangle in the field as such. Nobody learns how to use it, either. It is a learning tool to teach about exposure, not a tool for doing photography. It is used in a "classroom" which might be a field trip but might not be too. Once a photographer actually has learned how exposure works there is no point to the Exposure Triangle other than when instructing another photographer.

The Exposure Triangle is a concept that teaches the relationship between the three legs. It does not provide values to use in camera configuration.

I think the concept of an Exposure Triangle is useful to some people and perhaps not so much for others. Technically inclined people tend to digest the significance in only seconds, while others may quickly catch the meaning but require a "cheat sheet" to implement the concept. Obviously some people never understand it. So whether it is significantly useful depends on the person, because it is not universally of value.
