First, I hate the fact that camera mfrs shoved video down our throats on these cameras. Just hate it. I'd probably do something permanent, like epoxy.
BUT!!! a removable cap. Now that sounds do-able. This stuff is moldable and removable. I've been threatening to get some for a few little odds and ends chores.

Sugru is awesome stuff! I have used it on computer cords that seem to come apart at the connector ends. Works as advertised. As a cover to a movie record button? I'm not so sure...
Our sliding closet doors have small round rubber adhesive bumpers to prevent noise and marks. It might be possible to drill out the center and attach them on the camera around the button to prevent accidental pressing the button.
