A couple of weeks back a fellow Hogger posted info about a device that covers the lens lock button on the cam body to prevent a thief from stealing your lense off your camera. I can't locate that post or the info where I can get it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

No. The device i'm looking for is a thin ring type cover with a hole the diameter of the lens mount opening that simply you lay over the front of the cam body before attaching the lense. This cover extends laterally to cover up the lense unlocking button. That way, a savvy thief can't touch the unlock buttom and swipe your lense. Apparently thiefs are getting very good at doing that even when youre carrying your camera arond your neck. They hit the unlock button, detach the lense and run off. They operate in packs of 2 or 3. A new spin on pickpocketing.

How would you be able to take the lens off then?

You lift up the lateral extension--which is a flexible material, insert your finger under it, press the button and detach the lense. That takes more time and effort, which a thief would not have time to do.

The thief is looking for an exposed unlocking button. The device covers it up and makes it inaccessible to the thief.

Even without the anti-theft device isn't it easier for a thief to steal the camera with the lens on it than to remove the lens just to steal the lens?

I would think a thief would just take the camera plus lens if given the opportunity. I never heard of a thief taking a lens and leaving the camera body...

Far be it from me to figure out why a thief would limit his target to a lense only. But they are targeting the lense--especially ones like the 70-200's.
Bingo. That is the device on the link.
Thanks.

Super glue.

Only one draw back, you need one body per lens.

Silly boy/girl, professionals who steal your gear do not want your lens. They want your lens and camera. So, lock the camera to your belt with a 1/4 inch steel cable and lock the other end to your 1/4 20 tripod mount on your camera and then you will be safe. If your lens also has a tripod socket, put a 1/4 inch steel cable on that too and attach to your belt. I am sure when you are out and about no professional thief will bother you. You will be completely safe and will not draw any attention to yourself. This rig would really benefit you in Rome, which is the pick pocket capital of the world. And remember, camera thief's want your camera body also, they can sell the camera and lens faster than just the lens, trust me, I know. Don't ask.

Didi you ever consider that a thief would take lens and camera instead of just the lens.

Just put a lens detachment rider on your Scam Insurance policy.
