That was too much battery in too little space, samsung are going to rerelease the line but with a smaller battery 3000-3200ma instead of 3,500ma i think the destination for them will be india amongst some others. Better than scrapping them completely.

It was more complicated than that. It was an overly ambitious rushed project with design flaws in the batteries that caused short circuits, inadequate quality oversight and testing, and poor business process management.

Those things all conspired together causing Samsung to take a very expensive and embarrassing face plant which can be considered career limiting in Korea.

The phone design seemed OK, it was the batteries primarily, but the brand damage is done, and loss mitigation is the only option left.

Yes, I agree, although I think you mean paradigm. Paradyne appears to be a parasite medicine for pets!

More seriously I expect Nikon to navigate these changes OK, but it is hard to get it perfect in such changing conditions. Canon has to navigate the same waters and is clearly doing so as it tests the mirrorless market.

I think part of the problem is that the consumer digital camera market is relatively new in comparison to the experience of many UHH members, especially the pace at which it changes. To those of us that have lived our lives in the tech industry it is just business as usual.

Trying to move too fast is also dangerous as Samsung found out with its exploding phones.

Cheers

Oops yes paradigm. Thanks.

Agree with all that.

I was referring to the article that the poster was referencing. Not Tony's. Why would I reference a link that someone else posted. In fact Northrop's post was spot on. Maybe you should go back and read the original post. Kodak did in fact invent the digital camera according to history. I think that it was 1973. not 1975. And I only stated this fact to prove that the "guy" from the link that the poster was referring to, not Northrop's link, clearly did not do his homework.

Before you criticize me maybe you should read the original post and click on the link.

I did read the original article.

Sorry if you felt you were being criticized. I thought you were referring to my post since your post was directly following it.

There have been a number of articles in the press/online, and posts here, about the future of Nikon, the latest being http://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-444559-1.html

The bottom line is that Nikon has taken a step back, they are re-thinking their strategy, and next year they won't be quite the same company they were last year {yeah, I know that is true of most companies if they want to continue to be around}. Both Nikon and Pentax have used the word "premium" to describe their aspirations ... but its not clear yet whether that means leaving the lowest tier to Canon or going for a higher markup on their cameras in general.

Note 1: Nikon currently has a confusing array of camera lines at the lower levels, various 3xxx and 5xxx cameras that is. In my view, a good step would be to simplify what they offer at that level.

Note 2: The K-70, a camera Pentax released last summer, currently has a price around $600, so "premium" doesn't necessarily translate into "not inexpensive"; only the actions of these companies will give us a better understanding of what they're thinking.
