I used a Powershot years ago and found it to be pretty good, not like a dslr but still good. The photos were fine except when I tried to get some tattoos on someone. For whatever reason it just didn't like tattoos on human skin. ??? Like I said everything else was pretty good.

Neither do I.

Hello group this is my first post and I'm hoping to get some useful information.
I'm an advanced amateur with a complete Nikon digital system. Getting tired of lugging these cameras and lenses around.
I'm looking for a quality fun camera with a zoom lens that I can use as a "go to " camera. I've been reading about the Canon Powershot gx3 and have become quite interested. Any comments or suggestions as to a different camera. Would appreciate all good comments. Thank you.

Any of the bridge cameras will mean a decrease in quality of image as a consequence of small sensors. Ok for sharing on Facebook, but not printing.

A good option is a Sony a6000 with an 18-200 lens (Either Sony or Tamron). It is lightweight with good IQ and will give you what you have been enjoying with you Nikons. I sold all my Nikon gear to purchase, first an a6000, which I took to europe for a month and then to Death Valley for wildflowers. It was no more hassle than a bridge camera, without all the deficiencies.

Hi! Look seriously at the Panasonic Lumix FZ300/330. This is a bridge camera with a 600 zoom. Weather sealed and use as a point and shoot or a single lens replacement for a DSLR. Look up the review and specs on DPreview

Further to my above note.

That statement was made by Reinaldokool. I completely disagree. I print my photos (or some of them) up to 10 x 8 and cannot find a fault. They certainly are as good as when I used DSLRs. It seems as if some people automatically disparage bridge cameras because they know nothing about them and cannot see past SLRs or DSLRs. I have had my years with those cameras and my change to the FZ 200 to now the FZ300 is the best move I have made. It has put the fun back into photography, something I was losing before.
