Very welcome, I think we are both trying to achieve the same objective, better informed, better expressed and unbiased guidance. Unless one works with multiple environments it is sometimes hard to separate the common elements from the vendor specific ones.

Yes, you can reset the edits or delete the side car file, either one does the same thing - returns the raw to out of the camera state.
For me, I never liked the extra clutter, even though tiny clutter, of a sidecar file, so I elect to convert all my NEF's to DNG. That still retains the raw data, but allows the use of edits stored within the DNG file, if needed, reseting to original accomplishes resetting the file to sooc-raw.
