Hi all --

Anyone have experience with RAW dev software other than LR and PS? With my Lumix LZ1000 came SilkyPix. It's website seems to indicate it is used by a variety of camera manufacturers and has a host of features.
I am just getting into the "other than jpeg" world. Suggestions?

PS Elements comes with a "stripped down" version of Adobe Camera Raw if you're not ready for the full Photoshop experience.

Did you mean FZ1000? Supported cameras list:

Just started using On1 Photo Raw. Has a powerful blend of features reminiscent of Lightroom and Photoshop, but there is no need to subscribe indefinitely. Very good supporting documentation. Seems easy to process photos from Raw or Jpeg images. Pleased so far. Have posted several images in the UHH Gallery.

If you want free look at GIMP it has a lot of features. Buy a used copy of Photoshop elements. Its a great way to begin to learn photoshop. Then when your ready for the full version, you will already have down most of the basics.

I use LR/PS, On1Raw, Capture One and DXO - they are all good, and all different - the differences are sometimes subtle and sometimes pretty significant - like skin tones on C1, Noise, Sharpening and lens distortion correction/keystone correction in DXO. I am just learning the ins and outs of On1Raw, and I do like the seamless integration with their other modules, and the fact that adjustments in raw are layer based, and they use a PS-style smart file to keep the changes non-destructive and still let you go back and adjust one or more of the layers without affecting the whole stack.

Welcome to RAW photography! Once you get started, you will be glad you did. I use Adobe CC's subscription which includes both LR and PS. If spending $10.00 per month works for you, it will always be up-to-date and you will never have to purchase a newer version. If you want to try it out, Adobe offers a 30-day free trial of both programs. That will give you an opportunity to explore the possibilities for free. I suspect other editing programs will do the same thing.

My Nikon camera also came with a free program, but it is very basic and therefore limited in what can be done with it. This is why people usually end up with other software for editing.

Aftershot Pro 3 works fine and is priced resonable.

One that I'd recommend is Light Zone. If you are on a Mac, another is Phocus. Both handle RAW rather nicely. Both are not only free but also include a free learning curve that you can apply as needed.

That's interesting! Hasselbald is using Apples Digital Camera Raw feature which is a brilliant move by them.

For a list of camera's supported in Digital Camera Raw by Sierra and iOS10 see:

When I first went raw, with Adobe Lightroom, I shot so that I got both a RAW and JPG image of of each photograph. I would look for JPEG images that other than crop, where very close to what I wanted then use my Lightroom tools on the raw version of the image and try to match the JPG version. I did this over and over again until the basic tools adjustment were second nature to me. I then went through all the fine adjustment tools and worked on learning them one by one using Adobes tutorial videos as well as any number of free video professional and amature videos that are posted on youtube until I was proficient with those. T%here are hundreds of tools in Photoshop, and unfortunately and Inexplicably Adobe does not have a nice searchable help file that explains the basics of what each tool does. Instead it has a hideous online help file with a so called "Smart Search" that, to me gives the information for all sorts of Adobe products with similar features as well as photoshop and the answer I'm looking for is in the 45th answer down. It is very difficult to use especially if you can describe what you want to do and can't remember, or don't know the name of the tool or it requires the use of multiple tools in a certain order.

I know that PS Elements in some ways has features missing from it that are present in the full version of PS but what features are missing in ACR? I have never noticed any features missing.

After many years of Photoshop, I recently began using Affinity Photo. Much of my previous knowledge and learning is transferable. It will do almost anything that PS will do and somethings better. The RAW processing works well.
