Lensrentals or Borrowlenses?

Any preferences/pitfalls to either? I plan to rent a Sony 70-400 g (or g2) this summer to try out premium glass and to try out rental experience. My Tamron 70-300 has worked fine in the past, but I want more length and see the difference high end glass makes. I should probably consider the insurance since I'll be waking around at an air show/convention with literally about 1/2 million other people for a week. I use a crop-frame a77 ( I was going to rent an a99ii, but probably just buy one when I can afford it).

I did it when I went to Costa Rica a few years ago for much the same reasons. Rented a Canon 100-400L for 10 days. Well worth it. I shot most of the shots on a monopod because it was a lot a weight to haul around all day.

I also have a Tamron 70-300 and I'm also considering a rental, but in my case a 600. My Grandson's graduation ceremony will be at an outdoor stadium in a few months. As president of his class, he'll be like a master of ceremonies. Can't wait to see what kind of responses you get on your question, PlanePics!

I would use whoever has the cheapest shipping, especialy the return, that can kill you. Also factor in the insurance cost!
They all have the same lenses and cameras.

I've rented for LensRentals.com numerous times. They're very good. They clean everything after coming back from being rented - even a camera's sensor. They include a pre-paid return shipping label in the box to make returns easy. I would highly recommend them. I rented from one other outfit once. I can't remember which one now. They were terrible. When I spoke to a representative on the phone, he had a cavalier attitude about even shipping the items out at the same time.

I use both. I live close enough to pick up and return directly to the east coast BorrowLenses office so I can't comment on their shipping costs but I've found their service to be excellent. I have found that they don't have exactly the same equipment as Lensrentals so I've also used the latter on occasion. Shipping costs can be high, but again the service has been excellent. You might try going online and setting up (but not sending) the order with both to see how costs compare.

FWIW I've had good experience with BorrowLenses, renting both lenses and cameras. The sales staff was very accommodating, there was always someone live to speak with on the phone, packaging was good (a/k/a reusable), with convenient return sites just about everywhere if you're returning the merchandise away from home.

I used Borrowlenses once when I needed an extreme wide angle lens. No problems. Very professional. I'm sure both companies are about the same.

I just used Borrowlens for a Nikon 35 mm f1.2 on a trip to Cuba in December. It went off without a hitch from delivery to return prepaid.
