Light room issue, NIX software, photo import

I am using LR4 and installed NIX Silver Efex Pro 2 however when I try and use it (photo/edit in/silver efex pro) I get an error message "bad arguement #1 to "lower" string expected got nil" (this is a demo version I downloaded fron NIX website)
Tried installing it again but still no luck. What do I need to fix to make this work?
Next question. I modified a photo (in old computer) as a .tiff saved from LR4 (usb key) first problem; PS3 won't save it as a .jpg, not sure why and second issue; I want to work on it in LR however LR says the photo exhists and won't let me work on it? why? What do I change to allow that to happen?

I have more questions than answers.
Why load the nix SFTW?
Does it do something LR want? Or you need?
On the tiff:
are you sure of file extension?
Will MS SFTW paint open the tiff file?
Can it make changes?
Can you save the changes?
When you downloaded to USB, did it encrypt?

NIX augments LR and is an add on. I want to use the black and white conversion. you can find a link on LR's website. why the error message I don't know, can not get it to work???
not encodeing to the USB. the tiff transfers into PS3 and then saves either back to my USB or to the hardrive.
I just can not figure out whay PS3 won't save as a jpg, there is something I am missing about this. would take a PS used to answer, most likely it is an easy one.

you can get LR as a demo, mine is not. purchased. NIX does not stand alone, it is a plug in.

Have you contacted NIX. they may have the fix. I'm sure they would want to here about a bug. Who knows, they give you a free pkg.

Will photoshop open your tiff file? If it does, have you tried to copy and paste as a new image and then try to save as jpg.

I am coming to the reality that NIX is not all that. I have issues with it as well, freezing..

PS will open the tiff files. haven't tried copy and paste.
this might be the situation with LR4

After working the file in lightroom are you opening NIK through the "Photo" dropdown or the "File" dropdown. Also, how are you making the save for the NIK Tiff edit file in the menue box that comes up?

In LR3 I am using the photo/edit in/silver efex pro2 then making my changes and saving which opens LR3 back, at that point I would export thru LR3. No problem here EXCEPT I can NOT do this with LR4 even thought I did the fix as listed above.
The second issue is I exported from LR, to a USB drive, a tiff file which I opened in my other computer using PS3, made the edits and wanted to save it as a jpg, PS3 only would let me save as a tiff, not sure why.

I use NIX Silver Effex 2.0 Pro with LR 4.? I have not had any problems. Both my LR4 and Nik are purchased and not on trial. I have a feeling that the download of the trial is actually a stand-alone. Let me suggest that you uninstall the Nik. Then reinstall with a new download, paying attention to whether it is a "plug in" or "stand alone" version. With regards to the issue of TIFF to JPEG, I have never had a problem with several PP's. Have you tried a different PP to check the problem?

I also use Nik and the same thing happens to me. The .tiff will sometimes open correctly for days, but then I'll get "There was a problem working with the file." and it I'll never open again even outside of LR4. Sometimes it'll load and look all purple or green but usually it won't even open. I have searched all over the Internet and not yet found a fix. We should contact Nik , maybe they are working on the problem. It happens to me with both Dfine and Color Effex.

In Photoshop check out the "Image-Mode-" menu and see what color space you are using, if it is not RGB then select it in the menu. You'll see under the mode menu-RGB, LAB etc..
