You've had lots of responses and I can't take time to read them all, so maybe this is redundant. First, I think you got great shots of nervous kitties, so good job. I am a dog groomer and we often take pics of our finished dogs to add to a digital photo frame. It doesn't serve us to add shots of dogs who look freaked out. Sometimes it helps to have the owner hold the dog and just zoom in on its (more relaxed) face, or--and this could work with shelter animals--have someone hold the animal like burping a baby, with its head facing backward over the person's shoulder. (Hopefully the dog or cat won't puke down their back!) It can add a nice intimate feel.
