Olympus vs Fujifilm?

Had finally decided to trade my Canon gear for the new Olympus 1 ii. Local camera store (Midwest Photo Exchange) employee tried to steer me away from Olympus to a Fujifilm equivalent. Getting older and wanted to downsize. I had Only OM1 in the past, and liked their stuff. I like the new Pro series lenses. Didn't buy anything that day because the sales guy was so negative. That day he lost a $3500.00 sale. Opinions?

I spent most of my working life as a salesman selling things that cost up to near a million. The salesmans job is NOT to talk you into his way of thinking. His job is NOT to pick out what he thinks you want. His job is to help you learn the answers to your questions. Salesman are supposed to be like teachers or tutors. After you have learned enough that you understand the differences and all confusion is gone, they YOU decide where your money goes.

Get a different salesman or camera store!

Both cameras are as good as the person pressing the shutter. With that said, get the system that YOU prefer. For weight savings and image quality, you can't beat m4/3. Stay away from that salesman. If there is another store, I'd take my business elsewhere.

I have just obtained the new Oly E-M1 MkII (last Sat). I started with Oly with a D600 around the mid-90s, and have owned a variety since, including my E3, of which I am very pleased. This new milc is a superb camera. I
Acquired the 75-300 to compliment several other Oly lens added over the years. I can only speak for self, but this is also a keeper. Good luck in making your choice.

If you're hands are shaky (even a little bit), go with the Olympus. The IBIS is freakin' great...one could say that it's the best on the market. If you don't have the shakes, then XT-2 is quite nice...However, that said, I'd buy the Olympus...oh wait, I already did.

If I were to buy either Fujifilm or Olympus I would buy Fuji.

I've had both Fuji (X-E1, X-E2*, X100S and S5Pro*) and Olympus (EM-1)
I really wanted to love the Olympus.
The build quality is fantastic, lenses are great too.
Love the size and the IBIS is freaking amazing!

Even with extensive reading, I could not get my head wrapped around the Olympus menu system.
I found the Fuji so intuitive, I didn't even open the manual for a month.

Try before you buy.
They are both great options.

(* still have, use and love these two cameras)

Well said 👍👍👍. The majority of salesmen should spend more time asking questions (to understand the customer's needs) and listening and less time talking and making statements - that's the difference between a professional and an amateur.

Salespeople are often pressured by management to aggressively push specific items onto customers. (For example, they may be overstocked with a particular model, or a new, updated model will be released shortly and the store is eager to sell off the old model quickly.) With extensive information available via internet nowadays, there's no excuse for the customer to come unprepared and rely solely on the salesperson's recommendations to make purchasing decisions.
