I love the close crop. I think the detail is kinda cool. but they are well done
number two on the Robin and one on the Cedarwaxwings. But, they all are great pictures really sharp and crisp. great job!
I prefer 1 and 3. However, I'd prefer a different composition for 1. The subject is too centered. If you were to move the subject to the right such that the tail almost touches the edge, the composition wouldn't be as static.

My wife and I have numerous discussions as to how a picture should be cropped. One likes to fill the frame the other does not. Attached are 2 sets of pictures with different crops. Which do you prefer and why?
Personally, I like the tighter crop since it places more emphasis on the birds.
I prefer the closer crops; the wider shots do nothing more to show the environment around the birds but the closer shots show the birds more. Personally, I would crop each photo a little more.
I prefer the tighter crop in every one. I just feel like the "dead space" that isn't part of the subject becomes distracting if it is allowed to use up too much of the frame.

I agree - - I prefer the closer crop
However also agree that a vertical shot might permit accentuation of both the birds And the backdrop
I prefer the first of each set, Cordell Okie! Just see no need for all that extra space.
When shooting sunrise and sunset, I shoot wide first, then close. In this case. I probably would shoot the whole bird, and then a close-up of the head, with the eye centered... but I'm old and just starting photography...
The crop enhances the bird. I think you did a wonderful job with all.
Don't argue about it. Do what you like. You are the photographer.
