The Town of Hornitos is just a few miles from Mariposa, California which is where I live. Mariposa is Spanish for "Butterfly." During the Gold Rush days of the 49'ers, Hornitos was a bustling community. Here, the locals baked bread in little ovens and, by way of wagons, delivered fresh bread daily to the miners in Mariposa and surrounding towns and camps. Today it's a mere dot on most maps but holds on to its rich history; maintaining original stores, homes and ovens.
