Hornitos is Spanish meaning "Little Ovens."
The Town of Hornitos is just a few miles from Mariposa, California which is where I live. Mariposa is Spanish for "Butterfly." During the Gold Rush days of the 49'ers, Hornitos was a bustling community. Here, the locals baked bread in little ovens and, by way of wagons, delivered fresh bread daily to the miners in Mariposa and surrounding towns and camps. Today it's a mere dot on most maps but holds on to its rich history; maintaining original stores, homes and ovens.

Interesting set Bill with fine work... but how sad that they let this town get to this state, they need to put more into maintaining these old houses.

Thank you Angela! They did spend a lot recently on oven maintenance. It's a very small town with limited resources.
