I'm not enjoying LR. It's the learning curve. I use a Mac for post, and I'm wondering if anyone has used MacPhun's Luminar and/or its Creatve Kit. I'd appreciate the benefit of your experience before I dump LR. Any comparisons between them would also be appreciated.
Thnx,
BJ

Someone asked the same question yesterday. I'll see if I can find the thread.

Each of the more robust and comprehensive editing tools have a substantial learning curve; you will not find one without its own 'mountain' to climb. The good news is that nearly all of them have resources available to assist the climber.

BJW, I don't use Luminar yet, but their offer is interesting. I see they're adding a library/catalog to this software. I'm downloading the free trail now.

If you go to the Adobe website, there are very detailed videos by Julianne Kost that are extremely helpful for learning LR. YouTube also has very good videos on learning and explaining LR. If you check out your local community college I've got to believe they also will provide classes either for credit or just continuing education.

Forgot to add....LR is a very professional program (as is Photoshop), using and learning its extensive features IS NOT going to come over night nor using it once in awhile. I'm not saying to "bury" your eyeballs in it hours upon end every day, but take one of its features or tools you want to use and practice it. The old saying, "practice makes perfect" applies. Good luck.

I guess the rationalization is that i want to make my life simpler. So I started with Apple's Photos. Piece of cake. But then I really got into photography and developed a serious case of "GAS" (gear acquisition syndrome) and then felt compelled to get into LR. Oh, the dilemmas in life... Maybe Photos with MacPhun plug ins? Or maybe I'll just bite the bullet and try again...

Why not take a look at Corel AfterShot Pro 3? It's only $79.99 and there are regular updates and no subscription! There is a version for Mac or PC. This is a professional RAW editor also with non destructive feature.

I have the Macphun Creative Kit as well as Luminar and Aurora HDR. Luminar is really amazing and it is what I use the most. Macphun has a number of excellent tutorials for it on their web site and it is easy to learn. I don't use Aurora HDR that much, and I use some of the programs in Creative Kit more than others. All the Macphun programs can be used as extensions in Photos for OS or as stand alone programs. The programs in Creative Kit can be bought individually or together as the Kit.
I suggest you start with Luminar and add to it if needed.

Don't be so quick to dump LR. It's very easy once you learn how to use it. Get a book or watch youtube tutorials. There are tons of video tutorials on how to use LR. I was frustrated at first too. I started with LR3. It has gone through many improvements and is very powerful and easy to use now. The part most people have trouble with is losing pictures because they move or delete pictures outside of LR, or they can't figure out how to save a picture - which is not 'save as' it's Export, and they (I) have trouble printing from LR. I still have trouble using the print module of LR, but have since decided it's not necessary to use the Print module since I use a Canon printer and use their plugin called Print Studio Pro. It's a no brainer using that plugin.

Keep at it and it will come to you.

I am a LRCC and PSCC user and I have Luminar as a plugin. Luminar is great for what it does but there are things I do in LR and PS that I find critical to my work.

Use both (for now). Like the preset view for different styles as a precursor to editing in Lr.
Waiting for missing features that the Organize Panel in Lr and better straightening and stream line 'vetting' options.
I am very interested in member's input about how they currently integrate the plug-in with Lightroom in their overall work flow
