On the other hand, maybe permutations are irrelevant and combinations are what you should be calculating. I don't think the order matters.
Been waiting since yesterday for someone to mention that.

With all the possible settings on a high end camera does anyone know the number of permutations available on a Canon 7d or 5d or equivalent Nikon models.

I'd guess there are over 5000 different, meaningful, combinations of settings in a camera such as the Nikon D750. If you look all meaningful and nonmeaningful combinations you'd be well over 100,000 permutations.

Why, other than to see how good we are at mathematics. Think about it: if you don't include the lens, you lose the aperature parameter; this leaves you with shutter speed and ISO; if you use 1/3 stops you have three times the shutter speed range of your camera plus three times the change in ISO range so your formula is S x I where S is the number of shutter speeds selected and I is the number of ISOs selected. So what a waste of time and effort.

After four painful pages it seems obvious that nobody knows. Why don't you do civilization a great service and figure it out for us. Your name will go down in the annals of photography and your name will be revered for centuries.
I, personally, only know of Three - (The Holy Three). It may be referred to as the "Exposure Triangle". i.e. = Aperture, Shutter speed, and the sensitivity of the sensor (or film) = ISO.
I make use of two of the automatic selections on a modern camera. My first choice is Aperture Priority. However depending on what the object is this will very. With quickly moving objects I use Shutter Priority. I always shoot in RAW. And RAW/Jpg. Sometimes FULL AUTO if the lighting is horrible or dim, and I can not use a flash gun.
And still, with all of the "stuff" (buttons and menu selections) it still boils down to the "Holy Three".

Forty-two.
Or possibly eight times the square root of minus one.
Take the number of shutter 'F-stop'' possibilities, times the number of possible shutter 'time' settings, times the number of 'ISO' possibilities, times the number of stops on the
'+/-' dial, times the number of 'white balance' settings, times all 'other variable' settings and you'll probably be close to your answer. But I would multiply that total by at least 24 because you've probably missed something!
