My hubbie has a Minolta SRT 101 w/many lenses. What can one do w/it? I love the "old school" look of it but it can't be converted to digital, right? Just hold on to it for nostalgic reasons? Any ideas?
Hopper, sorry for the loss. Been there and had that done to me as well. Yes I went back to Canon. So Hopper, what do you enjoy doing with a camera ... what do you enjoy photographing? I use both the 7D as well as the 5D MkIII, plus the 1D MkIV but my favorite is the 7D. Four manufacturers now make 10-2? lenses so if you wany wide angle, a 10mm lens converts to using a 16mm lens with a 5D and it's a whole lot less. If you had your heart set on using T/S wide angle lenses, then you have a arguement for the 5D ... otherwise the 7D is just so good!!! I hope this helps you and I am so sorry for those UHH people that have no information about your question but feel they must say something.
My best and have fun, J. Goffe

Shoot film with, it not as convenient as digital, but just as satisfying.
It's kind of like riding your bike down the street to the local corner store in stead of driving your car.
I remember the anticipation of getting the photos/slides back and seeing the results.
You may have a younger family member, it's a great way to introduce them to the basics of photography. They may even like a shot at dark room experience.

Sorry for your loss. Now's your chance to join the Nikon crowd!
And, unfortunately, learn a lesson. Now you know.

Am I nuts or is the topic about the SRT-101 Minolta?

You are probably not nuts. Us camera geeks tend to get side-tracked upon occasion.

True, Only the strong survive. The SX-70 was an awesome camera. But guess what, digital came along and Polaroid being a totally different concept could not survive.
There is a constant evolution going on. Some will survive some will not.
If Sony ( just an example, but remember Beta? ) ) finds out they don't have enough of the market share or their ROI isn't there, it's over.
If you like it , enjoy it.
I can't remember when this came out or whether it had any success in sales, but there is now a camera that shoots both instant film + 15 MP digital, the Polaroid z-340

Oh Yes, Hangman...I had Pentax cameras in the film days.Sweet and they used to be popular with photogs in the 60's. I had a Spotmatic 1000, ME, KZ-10, and a little point and shoot IQ zoom. Had be thinking about a K-7,but now the K-5 is out. The k20D had been touted my many as a Pro level camera, but now? Everyone likes Canon or Nikon..and that's my camera now. D5000. Anyway, sharp lenses often overlooked. Takkumar glass was pretty well repected back in the "day".
While the body is an expensive paper weight (have 2 myself) can't the lens be used on the new Sony DSLRs?
Minolta lenses can be used with not too many issues on all Sony A cameras. Minolta bodies are a paperweight? Hmm, mine were fun to play with, but on a wedding I had to shoot just manual focus, because the AF was not WAD...that's why I switched to Canon the next week!
Merlin, I lost EVERYTHING, so going FF or cropped is no big deal ... I need new lenses anyway!!
f-stops, I usually take landscapes, night photography, and general photos - think along the lines of what you see for travel photographs. Interesting you have the 5D and 7D. How do you find they compare?? The high ISO for the 5D seems appealing!!
Its quite obvious you must stick with canon or nikon as if you look at sony you will want one.Ive just spent an age comparing cameras in a mag called camera shopper where a tremendous number of models were compared and the sony a65 was unbeatable and that will be my next camera.
I am still mystified that so many people consider the Canon or
Nikon the only worthy cameras out there. Brainwashing or
something? On the other hand, if you like real trouble:
get an M-9.
