I recently had my camera (it was a Canon 7D) and gear stolen (OK, I am heartbroken but what do you do!!). So obviously I am looking to replace it. I was going to stay with Canon (sorry Nikon users) but was wondering whether to stay with the 7D or go the next step to a 5D. Any suggestions, comments or tips??
Soooo sorry that happened to you! I am a Canon man,who somehow ended up with a Nikon D5000? But, I am looking at the 7D as a possible buy next September. The decision is made tough because I have the Nikon...and was looking at the Nikon D7000 too. Golly, my friend loves his older 5D as it's full-frame. But for me since not shooting pro anylonger,do I really need that? And the $$$. I am thinking I will probrably get the Canon if the $ comes in as anticipated.
Best of luck and have a great day!

Did you get insurance? Your house insurance or car insurance might cover your loss. I would move on up a notch or so if you get some insurance help.
I thought this was from Hong Kong. That guy is a real character from snapshot? Good and funny and informative videos!
Thanks for posing!
Snapsort is good - thanks. Yes, the cost of the 5D was turning me off a bit, especially as I also have to buy all the other gear and I was wondering what the benefits were. Regarding the insurance, I was travelling and house insurance only covers part of the cost. An expensive lesson I guess.
Might as well splurge and get the Mark III. How about some details on the theft? Just being nosey.
larrycumba, had it stolen in a restaurant in London
The Pentax looks interesting!
Sorry for your loss. Now's your chance to join the Nikon crowd!
Hopper I feel your pain. Sorry that there are so many$#*&@ around. I don't know what you shoot but if I lost my 7D I'd go get another one. I love mine and can't imagine why I will ever need anything different(and I'm an equipment nut). Hope it works out. Mike
Pentax is a fine product. A friend of mine has one and I have used it on occasion. Canon has more than 40% of the DSLR market, Nikon and Sony combined make up about 45% of the market, that leaves Pentax, Samsung, Sigma and any other brands with the last 5%. It would make more sense at the non-pro level to buy a product from a leading maker to ensure future product compatibility.
Don't forget to at least look at the SONY products..
I do not know the Canon cameras but if the D5[?] is a step up and you are ready to use it then why not go into a more advanced body?
Sorry about your loss. Hope it was insured.
How did it happen?
If you just got a 7D then spending another $1,000 for the 5D Mark III versus another 7D may more than you need. If you can afford it, go for it! They are both great cameras (I have one of each).
The 5D MIII is more complicated as it has double or triple the menu options of the 7D, so learning how to find things and changing them quicking when out in the field can take time.
