Camera Store Theft

In what sounds like a well-planned burglary, thieves broke into an interior design store and then broke through a wall to the neighboring Rockbrook Camera store in Lincoln NE, stealing at least 27 cameras and lenses.

These items are almost certainly going to show up in online sales offerings. Be wary.

This is too vague to use. A list of the items would give us an intelligent way to consider your advice. Otherwise, this notice is of no use to anyone.

If I see such a list, I'll post a link to it. Do camera stores have a way to circulate lists of stolen cameras?

I'm thinking these are more likely to show up on places like Craig's List and Ebay than in used camera stores or pawnshops.

They must have had a plan for selling them since the theft was so well-planned. Getting stuck with a stolen camera would be bad, assuming the authorities found out about it. The store would report the theft to the manufacturers, and anyone trying to register one would lose his camera and be hauled in by the police. Like stolen cars, they might have had their customers lined up ahead of time, so they wouldn't try to register them. Or they could be heading out of the country. It would be nice to hear how this turns out.

What did they steal?

Perhaps this can help us answer those critical questions: Canon or Nikon? Mirrorless or DSLR?

Inquiring minds want to know....

You know nobody would risk prosecution stealing Nikons, Sonys, Pentax, M-L etc, so you know they were all Canons!!! That's a good start!

LoL!! Mogul, I seem to recall that in Montana there are 29 +/- Nikons sold to every Canon.
That's gotta be the highest ratio on the planet. If you had a truckload of Nikons, where would YOU take them?!?!

Are you sure this is a recent story? I'm certain I've heard a nearly identical story (thieves breaking through the wall of a neighboring store, and stealing a large quantity of cameras) about 3 or 4 years ago. However, I don't recall were that crime happened.

Well certainly not Montana due to oversaturation of the market. I think I'd go to Northern California which is probably over saturated with Canons due to your enthusiastic local support. I'd offer the Nikons in exchange for Canons/Cash. I'd then have the Canons CLA'd and offer them to you as my agent of a profit sharing plan.
