I have an Epson 3170 that is supposed to copy slides. Also have a Wolverine 8mm Movie Digitizer on the way. Will be trying both. Some slides and movies are 65 years old. Not sure when I will get to it???? Need to find them all first.

I offer this service, the way I do it is to shot the slides on a light board with a high quality macro lens with the Nikon D-800 in raw. I do a white balance in raw, with whatever other edits' I deem need to be done in raw. Then I convert to a JPEG and bring it into Photoshop to refine my editing, then crop to 5x7 at 600 dpi. Its a lot of work but the end product speaks for itself. Cost is about .50 per pictures.

Check out Scan Cafe. I got the lead from my daughter and have used them myself for 14 carousels. Depending on how many you have, they will either do it in the U.S. or ship to their facility overseas. You will be able to track your order online throughout the process. Excellent results if you are not in a hurry and the prices are great!

Again, another rude response.

Why can't these people sit on their fingers instead of being self-appointed UHH Stasi?

I've become reluctant to ask something—even after I've searched—because of a few members.

Also there are new members with new updated information that is likely to have not been in the previous posts or someone who is a member did not respond to the previous posts but had a recent good experience etc. that would be a good post.

I use wolverine and agree with rvhen. I also have an old epson 500 series scanner, whichs is cheap now and does a very good job, but is intolerably slow.

Hi All,

I have a lot of slides that I want to convert to digital images. I'm turning to you friends for recommendations as there are so many places that offer this service. You can understand that I'm nervous about shipping irreplaceable slides off to an unknown company. I'd like to do it as reasonably as possible, but of course reputation and quality are primo.

Thanks in advance!

Doing it yourself using a dedicated film scanner will give you the best results, but if using services is what you're after, check out ScanCafe. Their scans are of decent quality and the prices are very reasonable!

I use a Hammacher Schlemmer slide scanner that I got from E bay Has a slide feeder that holds 25 slides and recordes the images on an SD card

I have been using a digitizer from Hammacher and Schlemmer for several years now and have been quite pleased with the results. It take a while to do a large number of slides as it only holds four at a time. I think they cost about $120.00.

I have a wolverine. It does a good job on digitizing B&W film and color negative film, but my slidesarealwaystoo contrasty when converted to digital. Can't seem to be able to. Control it sufficiently to make them acceptable in many cases.

Be nice. Nothing wrong with asking a question.

Google's Advanced Search page allows deep searching within a single website. It's well worth bookmarking. I just tried it and got 3,140 hits on uglyhedgehogs.com on various aspects of slide scanning. Limiting the search to the last year gave a manageable number of hits.
