Opinions wanted: torn between the two. I want the super fast autofocus. build, and button layout of the D500 with the full frame sensor of the D750.

Which did/would you choose and why?

Thanks - probably a subject that's been beaten to death.

What you want is contradictory and otherwise unworthy of serious response.

Sounds like you want a used or refurbished D810 to me.

but apparently worthy of your time...perhaps someone would say "I'm getting great images out of my D500 and don't know that a FF sensor would be that much better" or "the fast and accurate autofocus of the D500 results in a higher keeper rate" or "the D750 is worth the clumsier body because of the tremendous sensor" or "when I shoot the D500 like a machine gun I have way too many pictures to edit so I find I don't use it"

D500. I have a D800e and I now almost exclusively use the D500...

Just a different beast from anything else I have seen (Nikon wise).

I made a weird non scientific test of the D500 to check the limits of this camera (D500)...

If you are limiting the choice between the 2 you mentioned, you know you can't have everything you want. As mentioned above, the D5 sounds like your dream camera.

I have a D4S and opted for a D500 over the D5. Simple reason is that I find the cropped 20mb sensor does more for my type of shooting than full frame. I shoot a lot of birds. If landscape was my main subject I would go with the full frame. For $2500 I would take the D810 over the $1800 for a D750.

I was at a Nikon event earlier in the week. They had, D5, D500, D810, D750, etc. when talking comparisons the Rep mentioned that Nikon is celebrating their 100th anniversary next year.... if you can, you may want to hold off on any purchases as some "very cool things" (his words, not mine) may be introduced next year.

You do not mention what you prefer to shoot. I own the d750 and the d500, and I like them both, but for different reasons and shooting preferences. The d750 is great for stills, portraits, and landscape. The d500 cannot be beat for the price for action, sports, wildlife and birds in flight. If you already own DX lenses, I would opt for the d500. If you own FX lenses, the choice would be in what you like to photograph. Maybe you could set a goal of owning both in the future.

You already know the answer. Either pick the one that best matches the type of shooting you do, buy one of each, or buy a D5 (in order of cost).
