Question for MT Shooter

Hi guys,

Not sure why you guys need to sling dirt on one another.

I am based across the globe & while I am no pro, nor can I contribute with much advice in terms of photography, I love learning something new here.

We all have issues, none of us are perfect.
This forum is about sharing our opinion / views & not about who is 'Master of all'.

The question was directed at MT Shooter & he answered it well. Yes, I agree that quite a few of us could have answered the question as well & google could be of help too. However, lets not get personal & try & prove which of us have a bigger EGO.

In my OPINION (its my opinion & what I feel) MT Shooter is well experienced, knows his stuff & I personally take heed of what he says. I personally prefer his opinion & advice aling with a few other members & that is MY CHOICE.

There is no further cause to slander & hijack this thread as the question was answered. Personal issues can be sorted out personally & not in public.

Btw, I dont know any of you personally & prefer to make my own decisions in deciding what is useful to me & what isnt.

For those of you wondering who 'this' idiot is, talking BS on this forum, please feel free to send me a message & I would be happy to keep in touch.

Do have a wonderful day & dont forget to have fun too.

thank you Jerry for asking the question and MT for your informative answer. We don't need Google as we have MT to answer our questions. Always look forward to reading your posts.

Peterff, we can always tell a democrat from their nastiness on this forum and elsewhere. You are going on my ignore list also.

Yes, MT but you are equally liable for being considered as a politician, totally self-serving, and full of BS.

You do not respond when challenged. You may be full of bravado and rhetoric, but when facts are presented before you, you just run away and hide with your tail between your legs.

You accuse others of being trolls, but you can't even defend your own turf. I'd be happy to debate with you, but when presented with factual information instead of opinions, you run away and hide. You have me on your ignore list, I do not have you on mine. What kind of man are you?

If you really want to prove your mettle then come out of hiding and debate properly instead of being the puffed up, pompous ass that you that you present yourself as.

Remember, in a recent discussion about shutter count for Canon cameras you completely overstretched yourself, you presented a challenge to me and I answered every one of your questions and proved you to be wrong on every count. You just ran away to hide and didn't respond.

As far as I am concerned you are a not a professional, not a man of integrity, just an overblown windbag. And also, a wuss!

Perhaps you should resort to Twitter, certain other personalities seem to think that it is effective, although in terms of international diplomacy that may become a liability!

The jury is out, and we shall see!

Refurbished gear comes from several sources. Dealer demos, trade show demos, and customer returns being the most common. (How many of you have bought items to "evaluate" and then returned them?)
All these items get checked by a service technician for appearance and function, any glaring or obvious issues are corrected and the item is removed with proper accessories and then made available as refurbished products. Firmware updates are often, but not always installed.
Contrary to some opinions these items are NOT fully or rigorously examined and issues can be missed if a specific error or issue was not detailed in the return package. But overall refurbished items do have a better record of reliability than assembly line items which only receive random spot check inspections. Pro level gear is different as each body and lens receives a number of assembly inspections during the manufacturing process.
Refurbished are, in general, a good way to save some money over brand new. Canon provides the same one year warranty as they have on their new gear while other manufacturers limit their return to 90 day warranties. But some dealers will extend that 90 days to a full year at no extra cost.
Do keep in mind that this info ONLY relates to "Factory Refurbished" items, anything sold as "seller refurbished" is meaningless and simply states all you are getting is a used product with no verifiable warranty.
So there you go, let's the trolls descend on me as they will.
Since you ask, I will answer. br Refurbished gear ... (show quote)

MT, you are completely correct. At Nikon, a refurbished camera is one that has completely been looked over and evaluated by a Nikon (not an "authorized service facility", technician and anything that is not at 100% is replaced making the camera/lens/accessory as near like new as possible. This usually includes replacing the shutter box. As you mentioned, refurbished at an Authorized Repair facility or store may mean many other things from as good as the factory does to, "well the shipping guy looked at the box and there were no obvious dents. so we call it refurbished."
There are places that I purchase refurbished from and others that I wouldn't take a "new" camera from. I wouldn't hesitate to buy used or refurbished or used (depending on the condition rating) from Adorama, B&H, Cameta and a couple of others. I would consider (with the stipulation that the condition rating was where I expected) any used or reconditioned equipment from KEH. I don't purchase anything new or reconditioned from Best Buy, Sears, etc. The only electronics I purchase from Sam's, Costco, Walmart or similar is name brand and in factory sealed boxes. I will get SD cards, cables and the like from them (assuming that they have them). We have a couple of local camera stores in the Clearwater / Tampa / Saint Petersburg area and I would NOT buy refurbished or used from them. For me, getting the refurbished or used from the ones that I listed gives me the chance to verify that they are authorized items and not grey market. I don't want to purchase a camera or lens and then find that it can't be repaired.

It's this kind of behavior that ruins too many threads on this site.

Perhaps because innaccurate information from people that present themselves as 'authorities' needs to be questioned.

This isn't a coffee shop or the local bar. Unfortunately, MT is human and sometimes makes mistakes. He's just not a big enough man to admit that.

If you don't wish to deal with accurate information then that is your prerogative.

You may have seen the recent debates about fake news being posted on places like Facebook, or reports on fact checking what politicians say. Or the idiot that fired a gun in a pizzeria as a result of fake conspiracy theory reports.

MT presents himself as a professional authority on camera related things to the UHH community. As such he has a responsibilty to present accurate information, not ill informed opinion. Most of his contributions are excellent, he just doen't respond to questions well when he is out of his depth and seems to resort to angry responses and being dismissive.

He may be a 'good old boy' in his own world, but if he is wrong and won't even discuss the issue then how much of anything else that he says or does can anyone trust?

That is why I respond. If you don't like it, don't read anything that I post. UHH is not a self help therapy group. People that post with a voice of authority have a responsibility to support their assertions. MT may have the physical presence of a moose according to some descriptions, but apparently has some other attributes in common with a mouse.

You might take into consideration that I did not question MT's comments on refurbs, since he clearly has far more knowledge than I do on such matters. It's just unfortunate that he can't engage in a civil conversation when he does not actually have correct information.

Does that answer your question?

Even a simple question thread like this goes down the drain. No wonder people want to abandon the UHH ship. It's too bad, because there are some very knowledgeable people here.

.... and both MT and SS are very knowledgeable indeed ..... they just don't seem to like each other much.

Jerry, thank you for posing the question. It was a good one.

MT Shooter, thank you for your excellent answer. As usual, your answer was accurate and to-the-point without bias.

To the several who responded with their experiences and other constructive input, thank you, too. That extra bit of information is good to have.

To the many who benefited from the Q&A, good for you. I am one of you and will use the knowledge gained in my decision-making.

To the several "trolls"... KNOCK IT OFF! Get a life! Be a positive person instead of a sour-puss. This forum shouldn't be about pissing contests. Let it be for helping each other. When a question is asked, let it be answered. If you can contribute and help a fellow photographer, great. Otherwise, move on. We don't need you and certainly don't appreciate your sniping and snide remarks. Grow-up!

If I had to guess, I'd say you were divorced at least 4 times in your life time. I couldn't imagine anyone capable of putting up with your personality for too long. I feel for anyone who crosses paths with you. You should be ashamed of yourself. You would have done a huge service to humanity if you didn't reproduce - unfortunately chimps like you always make sure that they spread their seeds.

And the dummy has spoken...again.

You're right. Just because MT Shooter is a dealer does not make him infallible or a God. Some of these idiotic posters would eat his sh*t and call it caviar. You can expect to incur their wrath whenever MT's opinions are questioned. The real truth: sometimes he's right and sometimes he's full of bull. In the latter event, he should be called on it.

I feel MT Shooter gave a very good answer to Jerry's question. And I will keep it in mind. I've always bought used or new. But I have no qualms of buying refurbished. I have informed friends of refurbished available cameras, and many jumped on the opportunity. And were pleased. If you want a Nikon D7200 camera, a refurbished one for $789 is hard to pass up.

I notice you sure are a tough guy behind the anonymity of a keyboard. At least Carter has a published address and place of business where anyone here can drop by and have a face to face, if that's what you desire.

What a bunch of BS!! How old are you guys that do nothing but argue on nearly every post presented? Sounds like 3rd graders arguing on the playground at recess! Go visit your doctor and renew your prozac script. Totally ridiculous!
