I find I enjoy shooting animals much more than people as well. I also think that shooting people (which I do, regardless - it has paid the bills in the past), requires a different skill set than shooting animals. There is some overlap, but it's not the same. If someone is trying to break into pet photography, I think they would get better and faster results practicing with animals rather than people.
