I have not posted in months as I have had a very busy and successful High School Senior season. All over now. These from a HS Senior session this summer. He participates in three sports: Weight Lifting, Lacrosse, and Football.
Mom wanted images from all three. All were studio shots - Nikon D800. 70-200 f/2.8, Einstein strobes with gridded strip boxes.
Needless to say, these are not even close to straight from the camera. Liberal use of lighting, NIK and Topaz filters...and a spray bottle of water/glycerin.
I think Mom was lucky to have such talent Cliff.
Cliff, obviously I have a long way to catch up to you, but I do know what I like and don't like. These are all very good, but the last one bothers me just a little bit. I like the use of the negative space. I just wish you would have got the whole left shoulder pad instead of cutting it short as you did. This is just my opinion.

I do have another one showing the whole pad, but his expression was not as good and when it comes to these, expression outweighs a half inch of shoulder pads. I can assure you neither the parent nor the boy care about that half inch!
Cliff, such a great set of shots. I am sure your client was VERY happy. I love the processing that you chose and the way it signifies your style even though each photo is uniquely different. Great work. :)

Captain, I like all of them. We've seen some of these I thought?
I've always liked that de-saturated look, it's very cool.
In the push-up one, why is he wearing a dog-tag? He can't be old enough to be military?
So you added the parking garage and the lockers? nice jib doing that. Adds a very nice grunge factor.
Very nice images!!
I wouldn't worry about the shoulder pad, just don't let Thomas902 and Tsilva see these. They will give you a beating about cutting of arms and hands and legs and shoulder pads and such, then call you a GWAC!! LoL
Nice job!
SS
CaptainC the first two are superb... You have a splendid eye for compositional element here...
And drama induced with thoughtful innovative illumination takes this entirely to the next level...
Thank you for sharing...
Looking forward to more of your creative artistry...
Thank you, Alissa, SS and Thomas902.
Yes, SS, I think I might have posted one or two of these previously, but not all four. That is not a dog tag but a medallion of some sort hanging from the weight lifter's neck.
Here is one more. This is the way he looks when working out - he keeps the earphone wire in his teeth to remind him NOT to bite down when lifting.

Yeah, I bet you are right as usual. It is just that I learned a new word the other day : "symmetry". I am trying out how to fit it into a sentence (or a thought).

CaptainC...what a great set...real professionalism displayed here...I hope people realize how lucky we are to have someone of your caliber drop in occasionally, and give us some advice, and show us some real professional work!
I did a senior shot, somewhat like your #2, that I might post at a later time, that I would like your opinion on if you happen to see it! I will wait till I get their permission to post it,and if so will post it in my own thread. I already know things I would do differently!
Again, thanks for sharing your work!
Cliff, love these shots and the processing is very nice too. Well done.
Your lighting and compositions are an inspiration to me! Thank you for sharing these.
ala Joel Grimes. Very nice!
