I have a a77 ,takes ok photos. I want to buy the best sports camera. What's better a99ii or 1dx2?
I am not familiar with either of those. I use a canon 1dmk4 and it works fine for sports. Performs well in bad weather and poor lighting.
They are both top of the line cameras but I'd have to say, the Sony is probably better suited for studio work and the Canon for in the field work so, the best of the two for sports, the 1DX II. It's faster, better weather sealed, stronger, gets more shots on a single charge, built like a tank, and did I mention, faster, than the Sony. The Sony has greater resolution than the Canon but that's not really all that important in sports photography. The Canon's resolution is plenty good enough. The Sony costs about $2800 less than the Canon and for good reason, few cameras are built like the EOS 1DX II.

Watch a pro game of any sort or top tier college game. See that 90% of cameras are Canon, then the rest are Nikon. Don't see any Sony.
That should answer your question.
Stronger, weather sealed better focus with far superior pro level lenses built to work and not be babied by collectors. 14 FPS with meter and focus and the lenses actually keep up with the camera. ut again, what do pros choose. They have budgets that allow for a choice of any product and they overwhelingly choose Canon with Nikon in a far distant second.
Canon, simple question!
Not just a great sports camera, but a great all around camera.

This does not really answer the question.
Looking at actual usage by pros shooting sports is the obvious answer.

If you're working as a pro then its an easy choice, its the Canon 1Dx II or the Nikon D5. For semi pros or those on a budget, consider the Canon 7D Mark II or the Nikon D500. It's all about the robustness, the fps speed, the autofocus, and especially the available lenses.
Not sure of your budget, but the lenses that a pro would use for sports with these cameras will cost from around $2000 for a 70-200 f/2.8 to around $9000 for a 500mm f/4. If you're not a pro or semi pro the choices widen and the cost drops considerably, but you asked about the best sports cameras. Take a look at what's actually used at the games. Primarily Canon, followed by Nikon, followed by nothing.

Depends on what platform you wish to use. Nikon has a fast D5 and D500, while Canon has 7D Mark II and 1DX Mark II. Both of these are considered the best for sports. I don't have an opinion on Sony for sports since the viewfinder is not a thru the lens type like the DSLR's are and I've been told that they are hard to keep fast subjects in view while shooting in burst mode.
The Canon 1DXII was the camera of choice by pro photographers, at the Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. 2016.

Tom, welcome to the Hog.
The best camera for sports is the one with the best sports lens line-up and the best support from the manufacturer.
So just look at the lens line-up, that will tell you EVERYTHING you need to know!
BTW, I was just at the Olympics in August. I saw mostly Canons and the rest were Nikons.
In all the sporting events I attend or shoot, I've never seen a Pro with a Sony! That may tell you something as well.
Maybe where you hang out it's different. For example, in Montana, You ONLY see Nikons. People there simply do not by Canons!!!
Again, welcome

Whichever works out best for you, I guess you just have to try and compare for yourself!
This is a loaded question or should I mention 'questions' , "I want to buy the best Sports Camera", than "which is better a99ii or 1dx2?". I don't know if Tom realizes (again, I don't know) but there are much variables that goes with, "Best Camera", for instance, I've used both Nikon and Canon, mostly Nikon, in fact I've used every Nikon Pro SLR and DSLR made until now. Like most of us, I bought each "Upgrade" with the belief that it would improve my images and each time, over and over again, realized I just couldn't find a difference. I am an old guy that's having a problem holding the big guns now so I decided instead of buying the Nikon D5 which is larger and heavier than my D4S, I would focus (No Pun Intended) on my settings, before each click, I would check the settings and my surroundings than click and guess what? I finally, after all these years, see those image improvements right out of the camera that I could never see before.......... Just a first aid treatment to a "Gas attack".............Sorry for the long wind.

Every ones needs are different but I love my Nikon D 500 . I'm not brand loyal . I just use what works best for the situation I'm shooting and for fast moving action it just plain works !!
