Well said. In the early seventies in the UK his work was published and distributed widely in mainstream bookstores, art stores/galleries, card shops and so on. A few raised an eyebrow, but mostly no concerns were expressed. France had and may still have somewhat more tolerant approaches to nudity that the Brits did, which may be why Hamilton moved to Paris and spent time in St. Tropez and Cap d'Agde where topless / nude sun bathing was accepted and frequently a family oriented thing and a safe environment. A very different set of social values to those that we find in some other cultures, and in current times.

As Ron says, it is not appropriate to impose one's own social mores on a another time or culture. However, taking advantage of or abusing a model, especially a child or adolescent was never accepted and violators were dealt with if discovered, but as we know it did happen and some violators did manage to avoid discovery in many situations. Some of those are now coming to light with increasing frequency. Unfortunately we have predators in a walks of life and of every color or creed, but that does not make everybody a predator.

Perhaps a simple approach is that if you are going to to do nude photography, keep your own clothes on and never touch a model!

Even better make sure there is never less than 3 people. When i was working with vulnerable adults and kids as a driver there usually would be an escort as well. one time i was interviewed by the police, this lad claimed the escort had hit him. Well I was able to state that didnt happen but the escort was still suspended for 6 weeks without pay while there was an investigation.

Get real. No photos ever go to press from a major publisher without signed model releases. Minors usually require a release signed by one or both parents. So any culpability begins with the parents. At the time "Age of Innocence" was published it was reviewed as a brilliant documentation of the evolution from girl to young woman.

Sir, if you wish to be real you should make your comments in context. My response was to your comment, "If Hamilton was a "Predator" then what are the parents of all the young ladies that modeled for him? Pimps?" My response, in the context of pimps who knowingly and deliberately exploit people for sexual purposes was "Only if they were actively aware and willingly part of the process, if such a "process" ever existed. Firstly, the allegations are as yet unproven, although it is possible that they could be legitimate. We may never know. Perhaps if you do a little more research into David Hamilton and the accusations you will find out that it is a very complicated matter. The mere existence of a model release may meet the legal protections of the photographer or the publisher, even when signed by the parents, but that does not excuse abuse if it actually occurred.

Read this: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3976078/Radio-presenter-accused-British-photographer-David-Hamilton-child-rape-left-devastated-cowardly-suicide-justice-won-t-able-work.html

We do not know that any of these allegations are true, but the reference to Hamilton at Cap d'Agde at the very least is worth thinking about. Cap d'Agde at the time was a family friendly and generally thought to be safe naturist resort in Southern France, so nudity was considered normal and safe in every aspect of life, including children. Also, unfortunately an ideal environment for a potential predator with unequaled opportunity.

"She [Flavie Flament] said on her second visit to the photographer's flat in Cap d'Agde, he appeared at the door naked but for a camera around his neck.

She recalled: 'That would have been a good moment for my mother to say "OK, we're leaving now" but instead it was just, "what time shall I pick her up?"

'I remember then looking into his eyes, and then down again, then up again - I couldn't believe it.'

She added that she knew something was not right, 'but there was no one around to help'.

Ms Flament said she remembered nothing as she was repeatedly taken back to the flat, suffering from traumatic amnesia."

Who knows what is accurate here, but I think you also need to 'get real' as you put it. Think about Jimmy Savile,: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jimmy_Savile

Perhaps then you will not be so 'innocent' yourself.
