Congrats on your new camera. I love mine. Sands, lear, as long as it is high speed.

I should check my spelling, sandisk lexar, as long as they are high speed.

I use sandisk extreme pro with a 95w and 85 r, they are a a little pricey but never had any problems and are quite fast, which is a good thing if doing fast repeat shooting, like following sports, birds, horses etc.

Sandisk and Lexar are both top of the line. Get the 95 write speed will add about 1-2 frames per second to your high speed shooting. It clears the buffer faster. They are a bit higher price, but you put real money into your camera and lens and this is cheap in comparison.

At 280MB/s you just might be using a Compact Flash card and not an SD. . . or you are now using the new Nikon D500 and its newer SD derivative card. . . and that card will not be able to achieve anywhere near that speed in the much older D7100 or any other camera at this time.

As for advertised speeds, I've run several of my cards on my Mac to test their Read/Write speeds. The Sandisk extreme pro that I use is rated at 95 and 90 Read/Write while it tested at 63 and 57 using the highest speed attainable with the tests at hand. Now that is what I call off the mark! SandDisk isn't alone. From What I've seen posted on line, Sony may be the only supplier that seems to achieve what they advertise . . . . . check for yourselves if speed is important to your photography.

SanDisk did make a 32gb 280 MBs SD card. Discontinued. Now superseded by 32gb 300 MBs. SD card.

The D7100 is limited to the UHS-I standard so there's no point using Sandisk's Extreme Pro 300 Mbs (or 280) UHS-II cards. Their Extreme Pro UHS-I cards are excellent.

I use a PNY 32GB Elite Performance SD card in my D7100. It has a read speed of 95mb/sec and a write speed of 30 mb/sec. I've used it for a couple of years without problems. It can be purchased for $11.99 from B & H.

By the way, I would disagree with the advice to select a card based on Nikon recommendations from the time of original design. That list is bound to include older products that have been replaced with newer better performing cards. To my knowledge, Nikon does not update their recommendations.

I use this card too. I haven't had any problems of the few years I've had it. One thing to note that this card is water proof, magnetic proof, shock proof, and temperature proof according to PNY.
