Instead of an X, I just put a 1. Saves time.

I am confused. Up or Down? My paper tray is verticle so up or down , makes no difference. But if you mean front or back it depends on the printer. So marking a sheet As above suggestions. Or RTFM. If matte either side will work. I think this thing is a put on. Reminds me of a joke, the punch line is "Green side up"

Generally with ink jet printers, the side you want to print on should be put in the printer face down in the paper tray, BUT if you have an inexpensive printer with only a top sheet feeder, you may have to put the print side up. Which printer do you have? In any case, if you have paper with a glossy side, that's the side you want to print on.

Just because one may be using matte paper doesn't automatically mean you can print on either side. Some papers do allow printing on either side, some do not.

The only way to avoid mistakes is to check the user guide

I would suggest you take off your blinkers, and read the printer manual / instruction sheet which came with the printer. I have got Epson and Canon printers, and the paper goes in print side upwards, regardless of whether it is glossy, lustre, or matte. When your paper emerges from the printer, which side is the printing on?????? UP or Down...Top or Bottom. It's not 'Rocket Science'.

The snottiness of your attitude made think that perhaps you're a Democrat. But then, if you were, you'd insist that both sides of the paper get an equal chance of being printed on.....

Which side does your printer print on? I've had some Canon that printed on the up facing side, and others that print on the down facing side. If you are not sure, take a piece of plan paper and put an X on one side and put it in your printer then see whether or not the X comes out up or down.

This is the best and easiest way to figure this "huge" problem out. It astounds me how some people can not figure out the simplest of problems.

I did at least give to the OP some hints/tips on how to solve his problem. What you did was to criticise other peoples comments.

If all else fails, read the instructions.

I did at least offer hints/tips to help the OP solve his problem. All you did was to criticise others posting, because you have no answer to help the OP.

And you didn't criticize? With all the guff we're having to deal with these days, it wouldn't have hurt you to show a little civility.

All this arguing is getting the OP nowhere. My printers(Canon & Brother) need the paper loaded in 2 different ways. They both have separate slots for photo paper. The Brother requires glossy side up in tray; the Canon glossy side down. Brother paper feeds from the front. The Canon from the rear.

This is not the place for politics. I usually vote Republican and personally know an equal number of disagreeable people who are full of themselves from both sides of the political spectrum. Lets not pervert the focus of this thread.

Read The Fine Manual.

Most Epsons with straight-through paper paths require the printable side of the paper to be UP in the tray or feed chute.

Mark a sheet of plain paper 'top side'. Then type a few letters in a blank text document and print the marked sheet, noting which side is up.

But seriously, this thread is becoming click bait for Google ads by now...

Not something worth starting a flame war over. Pull out the paper trey - put a mark on one corner of the top page and put the trey back in place. Print something and look at the printed page. Where's the "X"?
