Given that distracted driving is so endemic, that only defensive driving holds promise of living through driving. My first steps are to avoid the busiest streets and assume all other drivers are distracted. One partial solution would to mandate that every car have an ignition shutdown when a device powers up. But devices are not the only distractions.
I find it very easy to find drivers talking on the phone. Their speed varies, and they swerve right and left.
Thanks for posting the picture and description. I've copied it and sent it on to as many people
I know. I have a 7 year old flip phone that is never turned on except in an emergency or if
I'm in a store and call a friend or my son to see if they need anything while I'm out. We live
quite a ways away from shopping areas, so if we can save a trip or gas for each other, we do.
I'm always on the alert for texting drivers because there are so many of them out there who
could care less if they kill somebody because they just HAVE to send that inane text.
And then there are the cops who use cell phones, in car computers and two way radios while they are driving.

I'll repeat the comment I made the last time someone posted this here:
Correction: The information in the article was incorrect, and he did not lose his head in the accident. He had it safely packed away in the trunk before texting and driving.

New Hampshire has banned cell phone use while driving. I live in Miami and radio talk show hosts encourage cell phone use while driving. Every day while I am out driving I have to honk my horn to get the person in front of me going. They are on the phone or texting and stopped in the road. This happens everyday. I have also been rear ended by a person texting while driving and not noticing that the traffic in front of them had stopped. Luckily, no injuries just a fair amount of damage. Oh well it will get worse and more accidents will happen.

I thought New Hampshire was one of the states where you could use your cell phone "hands free" while driving.

Yea, I have seen that many times in Washington state where it is illegal, but we all know they are special. Like the Washington state patrol officer that was clocked on film doing at least 15 over on the freeway , interviewed in the parking lot of WSP. He was late for a class (instructor) on safe driving. Their special.
