mwalsh: Who should be awarded the power of reviewing the constitutionality of laws passed by the congress. Let congress police it's own laws?

"Hey, we passed this law, but upon rational reflection we should not have passed it as it is unconstitutional. Lets take a vote to strike it back down!"

Yeah, that should work real well...

Nagy: It makes me gag to praise Walsh, but his reasoning is unassailable. He destroyed Boberic's crackpot position.

boberic: This is the kind of tripe that our poor educational system produces. I asked for opinions, and you respond with snarky comments. The reference to regarding blacks as 3/5 was PURELY for counting purposes and was a compromize for the following reasons.

Nagy: It appears Boberic is seeking revenge against me for having insisted that Bush II told lies to foment the war against Iraq. He could not do it legitimately, so he choose the strawman tactic, implying that I did not know the three-fifths compromise was for the purpose of white representation. That, in fact, is what made it so abominable. I had actually written, "recognizing black people as three fifths of a person, but only for the purpose of giving their 'owners' more power in the House of representatives." This means I do not need the likes of one Boberic to lecture me on the issue, but when the chamber is empty, one can only blow smoke.

Boberic: The slave states wanted to count all blacks so as to gain more seats in the house. But those states regarded the black slaves as possesions. The northern sttes made the case that chairs were posessions and said that they would count them to inflate their numbers in the house. They compromised on 3/5. This "counting" had nothing to do with the worth of blacks as men.

Nagy: It had everything to do with racist whites not admitting the value of a black person. How much value is recognized in being made into property, instead of citizens?

Boberic: The US, even with all its historical (sic) flaws and misdeeds is still the most charitable country on the planet and has much to be proud of.

Nagy: This is factspeak. The US has one of the least charitable governments in the world. This is measured not by total amount of foreign aid, but foreign aid as a percentage of the GDP. Total amounts are inflated by the economic strength of the country. Would you like to see the figures, Boberic, or do you cling to your misstatement? Additionally, why bring this up?

Boberic: Many(but not all) of her past flaws have been corrected. There is a reason why so many of the worlds people still want to come here. How many Americans want to illegally enter Mexico?

Nagy: The major reason for people wanting to immigrate to the US is economic. As a matter of fact, a majority of the Mexicans who come to the US are dong it for that reason, and would not do it if NAFTA had not destroyed them economically. Did you forget this from the last time I explained this? Do you need a refresher course? Just let me know, and I will explain the facts to you again.

Your entire attack on me was actually against a false position you created. You imply I am a negative result of the American school system. Chances are I did far better in my profession than you did in yours. You are a rare combination of stupidity and dishonesty.

Boberic never retains anything other than Fox News sound bites and right wing propaganda talking points. No matter how many times you explain something to him, it won't sink in. He will forget it within 5 minutes. That's why every time someone brings up Bush lying us into a war, he asks, "I'm curious, what were those lies?" even though, he already asked this 12 times before on this forum and people have repeatedly explained it to him. Ooops! Now he will surely ask this question for the 13th time since I brought it up again.

Nagy: True enough, but stupidity can be genetic. Dishonesty is a cultivated quality. This creep lectured me that the purpose of the three-fifths compromise was for determining representation, implying that I was a sad product of a broken educational system. In fact, I had actually mentioned that the sordid agreement was for the purpose of representation. He attributed an ignorance on my part that was disproved in the very post he attacked. What an ass hole!

Here is the truth: Reagan (who ran on a hard, enthusiastic pro-life platform and repeatedly promised to make it a priority) appointed more pro-choice than pro-life justices. The next republican president was also vocally very pro-life, Bush, appointed two of the most liberal pro-choice justices. Bush 43 appointed pro-lifers but also appointed a Chief Justice that upheld Obamacare, which many conservatives believe is very bad for pro-life and is destroying their "religious freedom" (whatever that is).

My point is not to vote based upon SCOTUS appointments. They never turn out the way you want them. Vote for the entirety of a candidate's positions. You'll be happier.
