Hi everyone.

Along with other lenses I have a Canon 70-200 L lens.
I'm wondering if any of you use this lens as an all around lens.
And if you do, when you are out doing street photos and anything
and everything shots are you looking over your shoulder because
that white lens is making you a target for mugging or theft?
Just wondering.

Where in the heck are you shooting that's so dangerous? Are you in the Hood in the middle of the night?
Maybe you just need to pack like everybody else here says they do!
I just use normal caution and have never had a problem or felt I might, with any lens or camera.

It depends on where I am. If I feel nervous I leave the area.

Use common sense.
Works every time.

This reminds me of a funny story that happened to me. Back in the early 70's I had a studio in Center city Philadelphia. After a long day of shooting me and my best friend went to get something to eat. We walked thru a quaint little park called Rittenhouse square. i had an old woodside suitcase and in it I had My RB-67 with three lenses and 2 backs and about 20 rolls of 220 film, and a Leica M3 around my neck. We walked by this guy who was shooting with a ricoh 35mm camera. When he say two big black guys coming toward him, he hid his camera under his coat, and almost ran out of the park. What was so funny to me was that the film I had was worth more than his camera.

Always carry one of my guns in any camera bag I have with me. Or, if more convenient, in my pocket. But yes, I do stay very alert depending on what kind of situation I am in.

.380 S&W BodyGuard always, but the best self defense is always awareness and paying attention to surroundings.

That is exactly what it is to me, my "walk-around-lens" (70-200/2.8 II), and yes, of course I take it everywhere and anywhere I'm shooting. No, looking over my shoulder never occurred to me. Each of my cameras is way more worth than said lens, and I always have a least 2 bodies on me and same here, never thought of looking over my shoulder!!

It was probably the RB that scared him...even hidden in the case.

The more wanted the criminal, the less likely the criminal will get near a camera!
To the 10 most wanted, cameras are to a criminal, what bear bells are to a bear!!!

Great point. Be aware of your surroundings. Because if they "get the drop on you," it's possible you'll be giving them your piece too.

That white lens might not make you a target for mugging or theft, but it also might make you look like a white-tailed deer. An orange vest and hat can sometimes be a safety consideration.

Don, all these old guys packing is hilarious!! LoL
I saw an interview with a car thief once on something like, 60 Minutes.
The thief was asked if all the really good aftermarket alarms in cars these days(this was 10 yrs. ago) were a deterrent, and prompted them to instead find an easier target.
The thief laughed and said, " actually, we look for those cars and prefer to steal those...., we get $500 for just the alarms by themselves!!!"

If your gonna pack, pack a Midnight Special, you WILL loose it!!!

Perhaps his life was more valuable.

What a foolish thing to say about people you know nothing about. I spent 4 years in defense of my country(USMC) and another 20 years as a police officer in service to my community so I doubt I will loose it. Someday a hilarious old guy might save your a$$, in the meantime, you might want to keep your snarky remarks to yourself.
