What to do with broken cameras

Hi all. I recently had two cameras stop working. They were the Canon 40D and Canon 50D. They both quit within 3 months of each other. Both no longer activate the shutter when you press the shutter release button, nothing happens. I'm having a hard time just throwing them away, but I don't want to pay the money to fix them. They both have a lot of shutter counts and I feel they don't owe me anything more. I have purchased a Canon 7D MK II and am thrilled with it. Has anyone had the same decision to make and what did you decide. Thanks.

Keep them around and use them to send to Canon when you buy a refurb that's on Loyalty Program for an additional 10-15% savings on the already reduced refurb bodies!

You can call Canon and ask about the "loyalty plan" where you can buy a refurbished camera with a further discount of 10% off. I believe for this to be honored, you send in a broken Canon camera :)

Geezz SS thought I was seeing double vision. Faster than me sir!

There's a copycat in every crowd!!!
But just like commercials, it doesn't sink in till you hear it at least 11(I think) times!!

It's a common issue, the shutter button just wears out. If you want to keep using the cameras just get a cheap wired remote and use that to trip the shutter.

Will that cheap wire Remote work with other Canon Pocket Cameras & say the SX Series Cameras (such as SX 20 thru current SX 60 Cameras) if my shutter died on me?

Get back to me somebody on this answer, thank you...

You might want to get a quote from a reputable camera repair shop. You might be able to have them repaired and then sell them for more than the cost of the repair. I was able to do that with a camera and came out ahead to the tune of $200.

I know for sure there is one that works on the Canon SX 50.

File that under "innovative use of camera flash".
