I would not hesitate to do business with Cameta. I have purchased a refurbished Nikon Lens from them in the past and they are excellent to deal with. The lens arrived promptly, as new, and works just fine. No regrets of any kind.

Thanks so much for sharing your experience. I plan on ordering the camera this morning.

I am considering purchasing a refurbished or used Nikon d5500 in the near future. I have been looking at KEH and Cameta Camera. I read the recent thread on KEH and feel confident in their products. I have heard that Cameta also has a good reputation, but have not read specific users experience.

I like the fact that their refurbished Nikon cameras come with the standard 90 day Nikon warranty plus another 9 month warranty by Cameta. Also they have a 30 day return policy. All this sounds great. But, I am interested in actual customer experiences.

I am hoping some of you who have purchased cameras or lenses from them will share your experiences, good and bad. I also noticed they often sell the cameras with extra bundled items for the same price as the camera and lens alone. That confuses me. Can someone explain why?

Thanks for your help.

My last two gear purchases just happened to be from both KEH and Cameta. Both provided extremely good service. All merchandise was competitively priced, and arrived in perfect condition, earlier than they said it would. I bought a used lens from KEH, and a body, lens, flash, microphone, and some other new goodies from Cameta.

These two, plus B&H and Adorama, are four perennial favorites of UHH members. Cameta Camera is often a fulfillment dealer for Amazon.com, which is where I found my stuff. I actually ordered through Amazon. (I ordered direct from KEH.)

I can say nothing but good about Cameta. They are local to me, like 15 minutes away. It's a weekly stop for me. 90% of my purchases, of cameras and lens, are made there, the other is through B&H.

As far as the bundles, that could be just a additional enticement to purchase the product. I've never purchased anything that came with a bundle. I do doubt that the bundles, in most cases, aren't high quality products.

Bundles are a way around manufacturer list pricing policies. Many manufacturers insist that dealers charge the advertised list price for their products. But they can't prevent dealers from including things like cases, spare batteries, lens cleaning kits, table-top tripods, cheap microphones, off-brand flashes and lenses... So that's how dealers try to compete by adding value for their customers. Just know, going in, that the bundled items may or may not be useful to you. Some dealers bundle half way decent items, while others ship the cheapest crap they can find. So be careful.

Be advised from Texas I just this week purchased some items from the KEH website thinking that I would not have to pay the Texas sales tax. I called the KEH customer service when I noticed the final invoiced price included the local sales tax and they said I had to make my donation to Austin... And this is unlike merchandise I purchased from the BH website earlier this year where I did not have to make my donation to Austin. This will certainly now be an issue for my future purchases.

Thanks, Bill. I just ordered the camera from Cameta this morning. I did not order any of the bundles since they did not include anything I really needed or wanted.

Now I just need to sell my Sony a6000. That will help pay for the new one.

Looking forward to getting my new toy.

I have only good things to say about Cameta. Their prices are excellent and most importantly, they back up everything they sell. Had a problem with a Tamron lens and they handled everything and even told Tamron "No" when they wanted to charge me $180 to repair the lens (failed under warranty).
With respect to their bundles, I would have to agree that some of the stuff they add in are not the greatest add-ons, but I've found that if you speak with a sales person and tell them what you want, then they will customize a package for you. I've gotten both my Nikon cameras, flashes, lens and other "goodies" from them and have yet to be dissappointed. When you figure in free shipping and no tax if you are outside NY, they really offer an excellent option. Yes, you might find a wider selection of products from Adorama and/or B&H especially when you want something unique, but for the vast majority of photo needs, I would certainly look to Cameta first.

Thanks for the information. I did already order the camera without the bundle this morning.

I give Cameta two thumbs up after purchasing my first refurb DSLR from them. I bought their insurance and dropped the kit lens and sent it back and got a new refurb kit lens all covered.

I never buy from Cameta Camera again, I bought my Nikon d5300 bundle from them, I order extra battery it came in with just one battery, only the one that was included in the camera, also the speed light that was supposed to be included in bundle was a different brand, they want me to send the whole package back instead of sending me one more battery, I did not send the whole package back because I'm afraid I ended up for nothing. I was cheated for the first time so I never trust them again, this issue was never been resolved

I have purchased four refurbished cameras from Cameta and a couple of new ones. They are, in my experience, very reliable and helpful. I have not had any negative experiences with them. To the contrary, they have graciously accepted return on a camera I decided would not meet my needs, even paying shipping. They have also given me good advice when I had a problem with camera menu settings.

Cameta is my preferred vendor.
