You said WIDE. I have the Tokina 12-28 for my Nikon and have taken some fantastic photos with it. At $395 ($50 cheaper than the Nikon mount) you can get the Canon mount. And 12-28 is a nice range, too.

That's yet another crop sensor lens, the OP is looking for FULL FRAME lenses for his 6D body.

Looks like you need an equivalent to the EF-S 10 -22mm. The 17-40mm that has been recommended would fill that gap. Are you looking for something other than that?

Why would that matter?

Because a wide angle for the OP might not be a wide angle for you!

I understand your question. I know what it's like when someone buys you under wear two sizes too small; it can make you as grouchy as a rattlesnake that just swallowed a porcupine.

Canon 17-40mm f/4L USM sells for about $750. I use this lens on my 6D. All the other wide angle lenses for a full-frame are more expensive.
Bud

This is the best choice within this price range. The OP can get into the 11mm range, but then he's up >$2500.

There are some nasty remarks being posted, and this isn't the place for them.

any suggestions on a wide angle lens for canon 6d. $ are limited but will probably by used. Thanks

Not being a "Canon Camera" person I can only speak to theoretical and aesthetic points*. Assuming the 6D is a FF frame, a 15mm to 20mm Prime or Zoom would be Super Wide. On a (1.6x) crop factor, a 24mm is only like a "38mm" not all that wide a lens. Buying used is a good idea. I currently own Pentax 26 SLR/DSLR lenses, most were purchased used. Good luck.

P.S., And you can of course ignore all the "get a Nikon" wise cracks. And going the other way, it is loosing its funniness too -- the Canon-Nikon War is just annoying.

*but I do have a Canon PIXMA Pro9000 Printer and Nikon View Camera and Enlarging Lenses.

Love the 17-40 on my 6D, used or refurbed should be in that price range.

Shop at KEH. There's no reason to pay a new price for an older lens like the 17-40L. Having sold my 17-40 to change to the 16-35 f/4L IS, look too if this IS-enabled model fits your budget. Consider too the EF 20 f/2.8. It's not a zoom, but maybe another idea to consider if a prime or still lower cost needs to be considered.

I have been looking at this lens myself. It actually a very ultra wide angle lens, and the company Laowa, touts it as with 0 distortion. Take a look"http://petapixel.com/2016/08/01/laowa-12mm-f2-8-widest-f2-8-lens-zero-distortion/ It is a total manual lens, but using it for landscapes, you'll focus and then shoot. It is also a f2.8 lens.

Just a suggestion, Tokina makes excellent wide angle lenses for your full frame camera. Their 16-28 f2.8 has excellent reviews if you do not need something wider.
