That theory first emerged in the spring of 2008, as Clinton supporters circulated an anonymous e-mail questioning Obama’s citizenship.
“Barack Obama’s mother was living in Kenya with his Arab-African father late in her pregnancy. She was not allowed to travel by plane then, so Barack Obama was born there and his mother then took him to Hawaii to register his birth,” asserted one chain email that surfaced on the urban legend site Snopes.com in April 2008.
That Hillary Clinton supporters circulated such an e-mail isn't in question, but the claim that that's the moment the birther theory "first emerged" simply isn't true. The likeliest point of origin we've been able to find was a post on conservative message board FreeRepublic.com dated 1 March 2008 (which, according to a report in The Telegraph, was at least a month before Clinton supporters got on the e-mail bandwagon):

I know it is a jagged little pill for you to swallow regarding that jagoff Trump (Mark Cuban's words not mine) that he has demonstrated characteristics of a person who is suffering from emotional and psychological issues and amphetamine addiction. I think that both candidates should submit to blood testing immediately before the debates and the results broadcast before they take the stage.

I second that. I also think that all candidates should be screened for sociopathy and psychopathy, which should be an immediate disqualifier. Of course Trump would NEVER submit himself to such screening because he obviously is a sociopath/psychopath.

I don't care where he went to school. That wasn't the point that I was making. The only point that I was making is that the right used the wrong argument in the past. Your argument may well be correct, but they would have made a lot more headway with that argument than the one that they chose. That's all that I was saying.
